My husband and i are just back from a three night - four day break in Manchester and we stayed at the Radisson Edwardian just off St peters Square. Location could not have been better- metrolink 200yds away which takes you all over the city and the surrounding areas. We used it on both lines during our stay. High street shops, designer shops, arndale shopping centre, restaurants, theatre etc all within 10 minutes walk. We had tickets for the Opera House for a show the Friday night - a matter of three minute walk- Saturday night we were at the MEN Arena for the Dancing On Ice show - again we could have taken the metro to Victoria Station but we walked and it only takes 10 minutes. There are three free buses in Manchester - Shuttle buses which cover all areas you may want to visit and it is a good idea to go on them all and take the round trip - it helps with your walking routes later on. Sunday we walked to Picaddily gardens to catch the 250 bus and stance K to take us to the Trafford Centre-well worth a visit - even to window shop -it is like visiting an American Mall-very classy, clean and loads of restaurants offering meals at all times. We stayed and ate their after the centre closed. Monday we caught the metrolink again -the Altrincham Line and came off at Old Trafford Cricket Ground and walked to Old Trafford Stadium- we did the museum tour - cost very reasonable. We booked our tour at the Tourist Information Office in Manchester - cheaper this way and you then know what time your tour is booked for because Old Trafford was very busy even though this was a Monday.
In between all this we used our hotel facilities to the full. The swimming pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms - every morning we got up ,went for swim etc all before breakfast. We had the facilities practically to our selves. It was so tranquil and peaceful surroundings-it started your day off wonderfully. It was so immaculetely clean and the dressing rooms were well equipped with showers-all with free shampoo/conditioners - hairdryer and even hair straighteners- free body lotion also. So from head to toe the hotel have really thought this out and you are well catered for. The staff in the spa area were lovely and using every day during our stay built up a rapport.
After this each day - breakfast was served in the Alto Restaurant. Selection on offer was marvellous. There was nothing l think that was missed out. Husband had smoked salmon before cooked breakfast each day. ( The swimming builds up your appetite). Joking apart - the staff in the restaurant were so courteous and nothing was too much bother. Hot tea./coffee,fresh toast all delivered to your table in abundance. A room rate with breakfast included is a must when booking because this meal set us up for the whole day for our travels throught the city. The Alto after breakfast becomes an everyday restaurant-offering light bites, coffees, drinks and also evening meals. The area outwith the table seatings is all nice comfortable sofas and leather chairs - really luxurious and you could while away an hour or so over a nice glass of wine or coffee late afternoon - which we did most days when we came back to get ready for dinner or a show etc.
Free cake was given to me with my coffee - and they even made my latte extra hot just the way l like it-so attention to detail and what you request is no problem to them.
Reception and lobby staff were all helpful with directions/maps/restaurant recommendations etc .
WE arrived from our flight before our room was ready but it was no problem to store our luggage until it was and the same on our checking out on the Monday - our flight was an evening flight but we were able to leave our luggage there all day whilst we did Old Trafford and then returned there to pick it up before our flight at no extra charge or problem.
There is also an up market restaurant - Opus - in the hotel but we did not find time to sample the food-menu looked fantastic - but we did have some late drinks on our return at night. So comfortable again-ambiance and atmosphere was great.
Back to our accomodation - our room was very upmarket-flat screen, wet floor shower area, internet etc - plenty hanging space, hairdryer with a nozzle , etc. We used the spa so much l suppose our room facilities was wasted.
Would most certainly promote and recommend the Radisson Edwardian it for a weekend break or overnight stay to anyone. It was more than its five star rating .
Hope they come up with some good weekend offers in the future because l would not hesitate to use it again
