I recently started working about 5 minutes from this place and have started to visit on the occasional lunchtime. The food is great and there is a good selection. However, on 2 occasions (bearing in mind that I am limited for time over lunch) the service has been too slow. One time we had to give up waiting for dessert because it took so long, although the waitress did assure us on ordering that it would be out in 5 minutes... 15 minutes later, I was still waiting. Then on another occasion, we waited over 40 minutes for our mains... to an extent if the place is busy, then I don't mind as much, but 3 tables who came in after us got their meals before us. We complained twice to no avail!

Anyway, moan aside, generally yes I would recommend this place and I am going to try it one evenign when time isn't so much of a deciding factor. A lovely feature is the outside dining area with a BBQ.

This is a great pub, a large selection of wine, whiskey and real ales. The Wharf has a great menu and friendly staff. Large outside space to enjoy the weather and overlooking the canal.

it's massive, got a lot of character, got a massive collection of pints and whiskys, good food menu and isn't totally rammed on a sunny day unlike other venues in castlefield

Knowledgeable staff and by far the best Sunday roast there is to be had in Manchester. The service is always impeccable and the atmosphere friendly and laid back. The staff are very well trained and can always provide a good recommendation if you're struggling with the varied menu (which changes regularly in accordance to seasonal produce). Seating outside provides a beautiful alfresco setting, there are plenty of nooks to hide away inside on the ground floor for casual eating or real fires to cosy up to on the colder nights. Upstairs provides a more formal setting with table service and additional tables on the veranda for summer days. We have been as a couple on many occasions, with a large group of friends and also as a booked party of 30+ people.

Friendly staff, good views over the canal, not just "pub grub" various choices, food well presented. Main courses over £10, the tasty shoulder of lamb was £16.95 but the portion was generous. Would return - good location for visiting the Opera House, Museum of Science and Industry and Coronation Street Tour etc.
