Have visited many B&P pubs over the years and visited the wharf for the first time at the weekend. It's lovely and big and has a great outdoor area next to the canal. We had a delicious meal (never had a bad meal at a B&P pub!) and the staff were superb.

Super location, particularly on a sunny day.The place is situated next to the canal with outside and inside space to suite any size group gathering, and only a few minutes from the city centre. There are a number of beers to choose from, specials, live music evenings and BBQs throughout the Summer. The staff were very helpful, and the food was ok but the prices were definitely too pricey! The menu could be so much better !So go along for the lovely atmosphere/setting and don't expect too much else.

When The Wharf first opened in Summer 2012 we went almost weekly because the venue, location, atmosphere and food was all spot on.

However, whilst the venue and location (lots of pleasant outdoor space, lovely views, nice decor and good parking) remain as good as ever, the staff and food have taken a nose dive for all our 2014 visits.

The daily menu sounds as appetizing as ever and there is plenty to take your fancy. However, standards have slipped.

The soup portion with bread has shrunk by almost half and the BBQ chicken starter I had on Sunday 3rd was mouse-sized. The sharing platters used to be almost too much food with massive hunks of delicious fresh bread - now it's still £20 but for meal for one with zero bread. The roast Sunday dinners used to be a highlight but now look like they've been sat out all day and occasionally microwaved: roast potatoes soft, ungenerous portions and no Yorks Pudding. Puddings. Desserts used to be a tasty treat and to an extent they still are, I just won't be having the pavlova again - shop bought meringue with spray cream and reduced strawberries: weird.

Service, as mentioned by other reviewers, has always been terribly slow on a Sunday but an hour between starter and main in a half empty restaurant is inexcusable. The family on the next table were on the verge of eating each other and the waiting staff just tried to say they were mistaken with regards the length of time. Some of the staff have been there since the start but their enthusiasm and friendliness is much reduced presumably in recognition of the nose dive The Wharf is taking.

All in it remains quite average but it's a shadow of its original self. I probably won't be back and I'd be quite sad about it however The Wharf has plenty of competitors in Manchester so I will just head to them next time. A real shame.

Lots of things went wrong with our meal last night, it felt as though some of the waiting staff were incapable of listening to us. So many mistakes with the mains. And again for desert mistakes were brought to the table. Out of the 5 staff who served us 2 were excellent and 3 were poor. Maybe they were new? But there is no excuse for not listening.

Called in one evening last week and decided to eat as they have a great outdoor area overlooking the canal basin. Food was of a great standard, citrus prawn salad lovely and fishcakes excellent. Sat and watched the sun go down with a bottle of wine, very pleasant.
