We tried this Bar Restaurant in the center of Manchester on a Thursday night just before 8 o'clock. The place was nice a full with only a few tables empty (always a good indicator). The steaks were good and cooked as ordered and the wine very nice. The prices seemed fine for a City Center establishment and the bill came to £68.50 for the two of us which was good for two large steaks and a bottle of wine Then I noticed that a "10% Discretionary charge of .....£ 14.38 " was added to my bill. Now I do not mind a service charge and usually, I add a bit to it if the service/waiter is good, BUT even I can tell that 10% of £68.5 is £6.85 . When I pointed this out to the waiter he apologized for the error and took the bill back. After a few minutes of consultation with the manager(?) at the till he brought it back, with " no service charge" at all explaining that " It could not put the wright amount on as the till/machine would only do it this way!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Now that is what I call a good business., "your till to only being able to either, not put a service charge on, or, put one at 21% and call it 10%"!!!! Seeing that the place was mostly full of large parties, having a lot to drink, I wander how many would notice the error and , if it was happening all night, how many customers will get a credit card refund with apologies from the Management?????
