We went here at around 5pm and asked to book a table for around 7pm but were told they don't have a reservation system so we would just need to turn up but we may have to wait for an hour or more to be seated at a table. I was quite shocked by this but we decided to go to a few of the local bars first and then headed over at about 6pm and were told there was a 1hr wait. We stood in the bar area as there were no stools available. We were approached almost immediately by a lovely and friendly girl who took our drinks order and couldn't do enough for us and regularly came back to check we were ok.

The restaurant itself is in a lovely building with huge arch windows and really high ceilings. The sounds all echo around and there was a great buzz and atmosphere there. It is a great atmosphere for all types from couples and families to groups like hen parties (there were a few in there when we went).

We were shown to our seats within an hour and our orders were taken in good timing without being rushed or left waiting. The waitress was very down to earth but attentive without being false.

The food was absolutely gorgeous and full of flavour. Good portion sizes and really filling. Very reasonably priced too. Equal to zizzis and other Italians and I would rate the food here better.

Really impressed and will definitely try Jamie's Italians in other locations and would recommend to others! So if you can handle the wait beforehand, it's definitely worth it for some nice simple tasty Italian food.

With a cycle ride over the Pennines planned for the next day, I needed to carb load on pasta... so, after searching for Italian restaurants in central Manchester, I thought it would be good to try Jamie's Italian again. It was two years since I'd last dined at Jamie's and, even though that was a disappointment, it was in another town and surely worth another chance to show that the chain is worthy of the name?

Sadly, I didn't get to try the food - or even sit at a table. I called up and tried to make a reservation; however it seems that the reservation team is not in the restaurant (although that's the impression given) - it's a call centre somewhere and "I can't see the restaurant from here" would be more accurately represented by "I'm in another location entirely". The person I spoke to was very friendly, but couldn't make reservations within the hour; however she suggested I still went to the restaurant and gave the impression that getting a table shouldn't be a problem (after all, this was mid-week).

After a half-hour walk across the city, I arrived at Jamie's Italian to be told there would be a 45 minute wait for a table. Waiting at a full restaurant, I can understand, but having tried to reserve and been told that they couldn't make a reservation that close (not that the restaurant was full) and being advised to visit anyway, I was disappointed.

Even after explaining the situation at the "meet and greet" point, and after explaining again to another member of staff (presumably the manager), I was clearly getting no-where (in fact, I'd paraphrase the response as a very polite "get stuffed"), so I left.

10 minutes away, I found three more chain pizza/pasta restaurants on one square and the first one I tried had no problems accommodating me. It's just a shame that Jamie's Italian can't get a reservation system that can cope with requests close-to-time.

I was part of a group of 6 (4 adults, 2 teenagers) who went here for dinner.
All have fairly discerning palates so not particularly easy to please.

The staff were very nice and the restaurant itself is lovely. Good lively atmosphere with no sense of being too close to other tables.

2 of us ordered the Arancini to start - these were fantastic. Everyone at the table loved them.
The breads were fine but no oil (as you would expect in an Italian) was served with them. When asked, they brought butter. There was a seafood/mussels starter that was also very good.

The main courses were a let down. 2 of us had the burger with chips. The burgers were over cooked (well-done) and the chips were over-cooked and cold. They were oddly brown in colour but not quite burnt.

2 pasta plates were tasty but nothing special. Neither ate more than half of the portion.

The turkey milanese was very good. The rump stake was dreadfully tough. The steak knife barely cut through it.

I think the challenge is that anything with Jamie Oliver's name above the door brings high expectations. Those expectations weren't met unfortunately. I wouldn't recommend the Manchester restaurant if you are looking for something special.

Went again to Jamie's for a special occasion, my friends 40th birthday. We 4 ladies had a fabulous time again. Started with the cocktail of the day which was a lovely start. Then we were seated and our lovely waitress explained the menu to us. Then she brought us a bottle of prosecco on the house as we are gold card members. We had a lovely meal, fantastic food ( highly recommend the ultimate plank!) Really lovely attentive service which added a lot to our visit, our waitress even made us up a desert plank, as we mentioned we had had one before, even though it was no longer on the menu. Can't understand people complaining about anything here, l have always had excellent food and service and have been 8_9 times from a party of 12 to just myself and hubbie to lunch out with girlfriends. Thanks again Jamie's for a special time.

Having heard mixed reviews about Jamie's, I bought a special offer voucher in order to try it out. The point of these vouchers is to introduce customers to restaurant/experiences etc they wouldn't normally try. We eat out a lot in Manchester so Jamie's wasn't somewhere we felt a burning need to visit.
I was disappointed that, as we had booked with a voucher, we were 'treated' to a less than full experience. Each dish that we ordered had something missing from it, for example, no bread with the meat plank, elements missing from the dessert. the polenta chips served with the mains were not actually chip-shaped, they looked like the bits left over when the chips were cut. We saw that other tables were served chip-shaped polenta chips.
When you take into account the missing elements from each of the dishes we ordered, the cost of the voucher would be only slightly less that the full price. I consider this to be mean-minded by Jamie and his team - needless to say, this has not encouraged me the go back. The food was ok, the service was ok, nothing about the place or the penny pinching short-comings in the meal we received made me think of going back again.
