Review of EventCity

Reviewed 20 February 2014

I'm pleased to note that EventCity's management of the Caravan and Motorhome show in January has its critics here. I went along on the Saturday, having paid £17 for two prebooked tickets. Upon our arrival the car-park was full and so was that of the adjacent Trafford Centre to which we were directed. After driving round and round the latter for half an hour, we noticed that there were now several empty bays near the back of EventCity's own car-park, and so we drove round to the entrance. There we were faced with an attendant holding up a 'blue badge only' notice. We told him that there were many non-blue badge bays vacant at the far end, but he continued to point to his notice and refused us entry. He also refused (or was unable) to answer a simple if sarcastic question:- "So are ALL the bays in the ENTIRE car-park to be allocated to disabled drivers only for the rest of the day?". He continued to point to his notice as, with rising tempers, we repeated this question several times and demanded an answer. Eventually, when a traffic jam had built up behind us, another attendant came to join him. We repeated the above question, to which, unbelievably, he replied "Yes". A Caravan and Motorhome Show for disabled drivers only???? Unbelievable. We were thus forced to give up and go home, losing the price of our (non-refundable) tickets, a large amount of expensive petrol, and an entire day.

On 27th January I sent a letter of complaint, by recorded delivery, to the Managing Director of EventCity to which he has not had the elementary courtesy to reply. Event organisers take note. Quite apart from the management's inability to train staff correctly, its apparent contempt of visitors to the events, and its indifference to the inconvenience and loss suffered by them (and therefore by exhibitors), EventCity is situated in a totally unsuitable location for big events, its immediate car-park being filled (without any checks) by the huge Trafford Centre's overspill. Its own overspill car-park is much too far away, especially for the elderly, and there is no possiblity of parking in the surrounding area. A truly horrible day to try to forget.

A very interesting evening of entertainment for a works Christmas party. The Russian evening had some amazing acts whilst eating dinner. The decor was ostentatious yet appealing. The spacious entrance hall and dining area were impressive and enticing.

The food was interesting with some effort but I felt that the portions were on the smaller side and lacking a little flavour. However it was certainly interesting.

There was carousel, dodgems and waltzers to enjoy! These were busy and queues were fairly long but were free and enjoyable!

A great night ended by a great disco dance floor!

We attended the Holiday Show at the Manchester Event City last weekend and had a very good day. The show is smaller than the one held at Earls Court, London but we had free entry tickets from Titan who we holidayed with last year. As the Camping and Caravan show was on at the same time this did generate a significant amount of traffic but stewards were present and assisted people across the roads to the venue. Unfortunately on arrival the ladies toilets were out of action and even the people taking tickets on the door didn't know where the next nearest ladies loos were to be found! However, we got to see Michaela Strachen giving her presentation which was well supported and enjoyable. We enjoyed the holiday photo exhibition and collected lots of ideas for future holidays. We were particularly pleased with the saving we made (£950) on our holiday for 2015 again with Titan who were their usual helpful and efficient selves. Well worth the petrol money from Shropshire to Manchester. We had a jacket potato and drink each whilst there and felt this was as reasonably priced as you can expect at such events! We spent the remainder of the day shopping in the Trafford Centre and had an evening meal. Getting off the car parks at the end of the day was chaotic but all in all a great day out.

Attended the camping and caravan exhibition here. What a stressful time for some thing that should have been enjoyable ! The organizers of this event need serious training. They had no regard for the safety of the general public at all. To have a major event next to the Trafford Centre in Manchester is lunacy. Pedestrians were forced to walk across a busy dual carriagway and round about with no walkway to gain access !!. The Event City was just about the worst venue possible. The parking arrangements were non existent !!! The toilet's facility's are lacking ( the ladies had no soap available and some toilets had no paper !!! )
The event was extremely over priced. One soft drink and a cake cost us over £5. Cafe was very basic and little choice. Cloakroom was £1 PER item.
As for the event itself - very disappointing . Poorly organised, Poorly set out, over priced, One uses the term 'organizer's ' loosely . The old say ' couldn't organize a .....', springs to mind

We visited this venue for The Caravan and Motorhome show today (a Saturday). We met my parents there. One the way there, our journey took well over 2 hours (an hour longer than it should have) due to queues off the motorway around Event City and the Trafford Centre next door. We ended up parking in a service road behind the venue as traffic was being directed to park in the Trafford Centre, Event City parking being full. My parents had arrived earlier than us and were parked in the Trafford Centre. On leaving, we managed to get away without too much delay. However, it took my parents nearly two hours to get out of the complex and back to the motorway. The show was good, but I would definitely avoid this venue on a weekend again. I have been there for events on a weekday without problems. Traffic management in that area (and parking) has really got to be improved though!
