I'm pleased to note that EventCity's management of the Caravan and Motorhome show in January has its critics here. I went along on the Saturday, having paid £17 for two prebooked tickets. Upon our arrival the car-park was full and so was that of the adjacent Trafford Centre to which we were directed. After driving round and round the latter for half an hour, we noticed that there were now several empty bays near the back of EventCity's own car-park, and so we drove round to the entrance. There we were faced with an attendant holding up a 'blue badge only' notice. We told him that there were many non-blue badge bays vacant at the far end, but he continued to point to his notice and refused us entry. He also refused (or was unable) to answer a simple if sarcastic question:- "So are ALL the bays in the ENTIRE car-park to be allocated to disabled drivers only for the rest of the day?". He continued to point to his notice as, with rising tempers, we repeated this question several times and demanded an answer. Eventually, when a traffic jam had built up behind us, another attendant came to join him. We repeated the above question, to which, unbelievably, he replied "Yes". A Caravan and Motorhome Show for disabled drivers only???? Unbelievable. We were thus forced to give up and go home, losing the price of our (non-refundable) tickets, a large amount of expensive petrol, and an entire day.
On 27th January I sent a letter of complaint, by recorded delivery, to the Managing Director of EventCity to which he has not had the elementary courtesy to reply. Event organisers take note. Quite apart from the management's inability to train staff correctly, its apparent contempt of visitors to the events, and its indifference to the inconvenience and loss suffered by them (and therefore by exhibitors), EventCity is situated in a totally unsuitable location for big events, its immediate car-park being filled (without any checks) by the huge Trafford Centre's overspill. Its own overspill car-park is much too far away, especially for the elderly, and there is no possiblity of parking in the surrounding area. A truly horrible day to try to forget.
