“Ideal Home Show- woeful traffic management and signposting”
Review of EventCity

I agree with other reviewers who have commented on poor marshalling and traffic management. We visited the Ideal Home show on Saturday 7th June. The venue seems unprepared and ill-equipped for large events such as this. Compared with, say the NEC, where banner signposting and marshalls guide you from the motorway sliproad right to your parking space, there was a complete absence of traffic management, in or out. I will not repeat what others have said only to say that my experience matched theirs. In my opinion, this venue cannot handle large crowds and sharing the same entrance and overfrlow as the trafford centre is a recipe for chaos.

We spent 45 minutes first driving round and then wandering on foot with no clear direction, in pouring rain, arriving 30 minutes late for a timed restaurant booking which was a birthday treat. Fortunately, the staff still allowed us in and helped to relieve what was by now considerable stress.

More worryingly, on returning to our car, the car park was gridlocked. No one managed to leave the car park for a full hour whilst amazingly, people were still being allowed to enter it, thus making the problem worse. Large volumes of traffic were still entering the site (mid afternoon). No one took control until some other drivers manually raised a side barrier drawing attention from car park staff who then reluctantly opened a side entrance, and created a lane to let us out. Another driver in the queue told us she had rung the trafford centre to explain our situation and had been advised that the police had also been called.

This experience was so bad, I would not visit either the Trafford Centre or Event Cty again.

Huge waste of space. You pay quite a lot for the exhibitions in the first place then it's £3 for a cup of tea and £4.50 for a jacket potato. For such a big place there aren't many stalls and not that much going on. Save your money.

I had to attend a conference / display of disabled vehicles and equipment recently. Parking was excellent at EVENT CITY MANCHESTER. The location is easy to find (next to Trafford shopping centre) The building is able to accommodate large events, shows and plenty of space to display large vehicles. Refreshment areas are very well located as are the toilets in each of the halls. The place seems pleasantly ventilated, but still comfortable whatever temperature outside is present. The lighting is good and surface areas are flat with no apparent slopes in the flooring.

We visited the Cake International Show on Saturday 8th March, travelling almost 4 hours to get there. We had pre booked our tickets and checked parking in advance which we were told was plentiful and free. The post code on the website took us (and a lot of other cars) to the rear entrance of the car park so we had to reverse out and re-join the long queue of traffic- turned as advised by the car park attendant and saw a sign advising Event City car park was full and to use Bourton - queued for 35 minutes and saw lots of people crossing from the Trafford using Event City and then found that Bourton was also full so they turned us around - we then were told about the other overflow car park so moved to that - why on earth was no one directing us to this at the start of the road? There were 6 car park attendants just watching the chaos and no one doing anything practical. Cake International was excellent but we wasted 55 minutes trying to park when we were only 5 minutes from the show - Event City need to get themselves organised.

I'm pleased to note that EventCity's management of the Caravan and Motorhome show in January has its critics here. I went along on the Saturday, having paid £17 for two prebooked tickets. Upon our arrival the car-park was full and so was that of the adjacent Trafford Centre to which we were directed. After driving round and round the latter for half an hour, we noticed that there were now several empty bays near the back of EventCity's own car-park, and so we drove round to the entrance. There we were faced with an attendant holding up a 'blue badge only' notice. We told him that there were many non-blue badge bays vacant at the far end, but he continued to point to his notice and refused us entry. He also refused (or was unable) to answer a simple if sarcastic question:- "So are ALL the bays in the ENTIRE car-park to be allocated to disabled drivers only for the rest of the day?". He continued to point to his notice as, with rising tempers, we repeated this question several times and demanded an answer. Eventually, when a traffic jam had built up behind us, another attendant came to join him. We repeated the above question, to which, unbelievably, he replied "Yes". A Caravan and Motorhome Show for disabled drivers only???? Unbelievable. We were thus forced to give up and go home, losing the price of our (non-refundable) tickets, a large amount of expensive petrol, and an entire day.

On 27th January I sent a letter of complaint, by recorded delivery, to the Managing Director of EventCity to which he has not had the elementary courtesy to reply. Event organisers take note. Quite apart from the management's inability to train staff correctly, its apparent contempt of visitors to the events, and its indifference to the inconvenience and loss suffered by them (and therefore by exhibitors), EventCity is situated in a totally unsuitable location for big events, its immediate car-park being filled (without any checks) by the huge Trafford Centre's overspill. Its own overspill car-park is much too far away, especially for the elderly, and there is no possiblity of parking in the surrounding area. A truly horrible day to try to forget.
