This is an absolute must for lovers of Indian and vegetarian food and well worth the trek for delicious chaat, curry, and a whole range of authentic desserts and pan. Anand's is a very informal and easy going cafe-style deli and can be found at the end of the so-called curry mile on Wilmslow Road. Anyone who enters is I am sure taken with the warmth and genuine kindness of the greeting as well as the range of delights on offer. Such really nice people here.
Anand's is a family business owned and run by the delightful Dipak Anand and his wife, who is also responsible for the delights on offer. Open from 12.30-8.30 Tuesday - Sunday. I have eaten here more than once and have thoroughly enjoyed several of the many curries on offer as well as the cold and hot chaats, wonderfully calorific desserts and pan. On my last visit I treated myself to dahi vada, a simply delicious cold chaat of four black lentil dumplings sat bathing in a wonderful yogurt and mild spice sauce mix. I would have taken the pattern off the bowl if it had one... mouth wateringly delicious, and absolutely authentic. I've also sampled samosa chaat, masala sandwich, several lovely fresh curries and rice, homemade lassi, and delightful laddu.
On my last visit I asked Dipak about pan, which he explained in his warm friendly style whilst he made one from the varied pan menu in front of me. I left and ate sweet pan, smiling, on my way back up Wilmslow Rd. This is eat in, basic cafe-style, or takeaway, with lots on offer, a very friendly atmosphere and owned by some really nice people. Everything is absolutely authentic Indian vegetarian (and vegan) style. Recommended for seekers and explorers of real Indian veggie food. Get yourselves down there!
