Great park ancient woodland needs careful management in the sense that certain non native species are being left to flourish, that said, many weeds are being left too which seems to be attracting an amazing array of butterflies and other insects... Cafe is so so but rather it not be run by a political football club as many others have also commented on. It needs toilets inside that work, a new septic tank slate roof etc, but the council are in talks so lets see...it's a shame this wasnt all sorted when the previous lovely friendly welcoming tenant Julie was there, btw she left after 4 great years because she got sick of the bureaucracy from the council which eventually wore her down. No doubt FC United will get all the works done whilst theyre there!!! All very convenient. Is it run Not For Profit too I wonder hmmm. We certainly dont want dangerous dogs let off leads too, most folk seem to use them more as body armour and arent a real threat! That applies now nationally not just Blackley... Maybe a month of regular police patrols at dusk could sort that...not seen or heard motorbikes in a while maybe folk are realising that their toys just get crushed now do whats the point if caught? I would def visit the park and take a picnic theres plenty of nice spots to lay around or benches! Tree walks, bat walks, bug hunts are in the pipeline....

I have walked my dog in this park every day for the last 5 years and have not yet witnessed one crime. I think the earlier reviewer must have had a remarkably unlucky run to have seen so much devastation. Either that or read a newspaper report and formed a distorted opinion of this wonderful park.

Wonderful park in a great location. Plenty of places to park at the various entrances if you're travelling from a distance to enjoy.

Very dog friendly, plenty of other chatty, polite dog owners using the facilities too. I love the place, you only have to walk a few minutes in and you feel like you're in the middle of the countryside and there are walks of varying difficulties you can opt for around the place.

The cafe is great and the owner goes out of his way to make you feel welcome - as well as being a refreshingly principled chap! Sitting with a sausage barm on a sunny day while kids play and ducks swim, unbeatable.

I visited the park in April 2014 with my wife & a friend
We didn't explore the park in full but had a wander around the lakes & visited the lakeside cafe which is now run by FC United of Manchester's very own Steve Bennett (aka 'Swampy')
He made us feel very welcome & obviously has great pride in the venture that he has undertaken there. He has big plans for the place & if the results matches his enthusiasm then we can't wait to go back
The cafe serves good food at a very reasonable price, & on a sunny day it would be hard to beat the location

This is a fantastic park. It's huge, it features plenty of woodland for walking and exploring. There's a decent sized playground, fields for sports, a cafe and a pond. It should be a great family day out.

Sadly despite all that this park offers it's hugely let down by it's surroundings and some of the people who live there.

Moston is a high crime area. Notorious in Manchester and my experience of this park hasn't changed my own view of that.

On several visits here I've seen thugs on motorbikes riding at speed through the park, people smashing glass bottles in the children's play area, large vicious dogs being fought on the grass and drugs being smoked in the woods.

A lot of the parents that use this park also seem to drink a lot and swearing at children at the top of their voices isn't uncommon.

You may think I'm exaggerating but it really is this bad.

It's a huge shame because this park could be perfect. It's close proximity to heaton park offers it as an alternative but it's let down by thugs. Definitely not suitable for small children or family days out because of this.
