The Place Aparthotel
Ranked #44 of 119 Hotels in Manchester
Reviewed 12 January 2014

If you're looking to hold your wedding in the city centre or around the Manchester area, you'll struggle to find a better venue than this. The hotel has a great atmosphere, it's welcoming and vibrant with amazing architecture. Having looked at the boring, standard conference rooms used for weddings at most hotels we were so happy when we visited the The Place and saw the function rooms full of character with their exposed bricks and original beams, we booked immediately!

Planning the wedding was a great experience. We had a dedicated wedding coordinator, Jade, who was fantastic. She is so enthusiastic, full of good advice and ideas and helps you to think of every last detail, we can't thank her enough.

We found that all the other staff we dealt with were really helpful and as soon as we'd mention we were getting married there, they were happy to show you around rooms, discuss ideas etc. We once spent ages trying out ideas for the top table and Alfie very kindly kept bringing different sizes of table, setting places etc. Very patient and helpful!

The wedding day itself was perfect. We got married in December so the hotel was decorated for christmas and looked amazing. I stayed in the penthouse the night before and had breakfast delivered so getting ready was a nice, chilled experience. Jade arrived at the door bright and early and was so calm and controlled, it's very reassuring on your wedding morning! All my suppliers (photographer, make up artist etc) commented on how welcoming the hotel is and loved the penthouse for wedding preparations, all of them were keen to work with the hotel again, having not been before.

The ceremony was held in the Pennine Suite, drinks reception in The Atrium (which is so individual, a big selling point for us) and the wedding breakfast and evening reception in The Bistro. We were blown away with how amazing The Bistro looked when we first walked in. Jade had decorated the tables exactly how I'd imagined, we couldn't have been more pleased. With the fairy lights on the beams, up lighters on the brickwork and a twinkling dance floor (which we hired ourselves), it looked amazing. We could not have achieved it in the boring conference rooms of other hotels.

The food and drink was fantastic all day. We served canapés, a three course breakfast and an evening buffet of bacon, sausage and fish finger butties with fat chips. I can't tell you how many compliments we had on the food and guests said the drinks kept coming! The service was also fantastic. We had around 75 for the meal and nobody was left waiting for their meals and glasses were never empty. A big thank you to Alfie and the team who looked after us.

We really think our wedding was amazing value for money, we kept wondering if there was something we'd missed! The day was organised perfectly and staff seemed genuinely enthusiastic. I think it was the personal touch and the attention to detail that really makes it stand out as a wedding venue. Although packages are available, they are not 'sold' to you - you really can tailor the day how you would like it. So many hotels are inflexible on their wedding packages, The Place lets you have the wedding you want.

Another big selling point that I have to mention is the accommodation for guests. Families were able to stay in the apartments (some even sleep 6), split the cost and have the convenience of a kitchen etc. Much appreciated by our guests.

Our guestbook was full of comments like 'best wedding we've been to' and one guest, a hotel manager, said he was taking notes back for his staff.

I've missed a million things out that were fab about our wedding - if you're thinking of booking, just do it! Thank you to everyone involved in our wedding!

Having previously written a rather negative review about the Place Apartment Hotel following a disappointing stay, I feel it only fair to write a further review in relation to our 2nd visit. After airing our concerns with the staff, they very kindly indicated that if we returned for a second stay they would upgrade us to a penthouse apartment and inc free parking by means of an apology. This was a very kind gesture. We were so happy with our stay this time round. No issues at all. Service was great. Penthouse understandably was amazing. It was clean, spacious, well equipped and had a massive outside balcony which was perfect. Breakfast was lovely. My friends and I were very happy with our stay and we would return again. Thank you for turning it all around.

Pre-Christmas stay for 6 friends to visit the Christmas Market, and what a fantastic, fairly central, location. The apartment we had was ace. One double bedroom that wasn't ensuite, then one that had 2 double beds in, that was ensuite. That said, double beds on steriods, they were massive! Also a seperate bathroom on the corridor.
The kitchen was great, well set out, with dishwasher, fridge and freezer and the lounge was fine, it overlooked the internal corridor, that was overlooking the entire ground floor. It really is a fantastic layout of a converted factory (I think).
Can't comment on the bar or food, although the menu looked fine.
Staff were very helpful, although to be fair we didn't need to speak to them much.

Excellent customer service from the sales executive to the front desk, very informative and exceedingly helpful. Rooms are luxurious, good value and can easily access main town centre. Has outside parking so easy to drop and pick up. Amazing facilities, would definitely recommend. Lifts to each floor.

The trip was for a Conference.

Room Tip: Deluxe corner rooms have more space.

A full service hotel with the benefit of your own flat in the city centre. Having tried a good number of hotels in Manchester, The Place is the one I returned to most frequently and stayed here for many, many weeks on business. They've made the most of the former warehouse setting with high ceilings, exposed brick and iron work on show adding character to the mostly spacious rooms. The lobby and central 'courtyard' make an attractive first impression with glass, greenery and plush seating. There's a small but functional gym which I had more or less to myself most mornings and a good hot and cold buffet breakfast. All the reception and wait staff were true service industry professionals. There is a little bit of wear and tear in the rooms which wasn't attended to throughout the roughly one year period my visits covered. For example mouldy bathroom sealant, often some loose kitchen or lounge floor tiles, a sense of grime or occasionally a piece of crockery back in a cupboard that had dishwasher-dried on food etc. This is the only thing stopping me from giving another star. The rooms were cleaned and tidied well daily (it is more of a maintenance / refurb issue than a cleanliness one). The beds are comfy and long enough for most long people. The location is fab for all the amenities of central Manchester with Piccadilly rail station being less than a 5 minute walk away. A welcoming place to come back to at the end of a work or play day. It is a good choice for groups as the apartments are very social spaces - particularly some of the larger apartments such as the corner ones with huge lounge diners and great city views. The Place feels special.

Having stayed here several times previously, I was not disappointed again this time. Apartments appear to have been updated in terms of decor since I last stayed.here There were only two of us staying, this time, but I found the apartment still had plenty of room for us both. Excellent location being close to both train station and shops and this time we parked our car and found the price to be very competitive compared to other carparks. The apartments are always clean with everything you could want in terms of kitchen facilities and with the dishwashers, no messing about!
I will most definitely be back as this is always my favourite place to stay in Manchester.
