We went on a Sunday night with the Sunday school offer, 120 for night but you get £75 to spend on food and drink, so the more you spend (up to £75) the less the room is! mini grand room was perfect for Romantic trip, roll top bath on the mezzanine floor was gorgeous and it was really nice to have two separate floors. The decor was just my taste and I loved the pictures which all featured cats! GJS are great for little touches, as we were way for our bday we had been given a slate of rocky road in our room, and not just any old rocky road but the most amazing melt in the mouth rocky road I have ever tasted! Another added touch was the complimentary real milk supplied in the mini bar which is so much better than the horrid uht things you usually get. I didn't touch anything else in there mind you as the mini bar was expensive, but they always are. Didn't have evening meal in the hotel but did have breakfast, pricey but amazing! I was very full after and they have a cooked menu to choose from or you can have continental. Also had cocktails in the evening. The bar and the decor of the hotel is lovely and there are all different areas to sit in and relax. The cocktails were the traditional ones and a lot of them were a bit too strong, they do have very friendly staff and an extensive range of alcohol so if you get fed up of their cocktails and you ask them to make something else they will but they are not cocktails waiters. Another added thing to mention is the hot tub on the roof terrace open all hours and you are provided with towels and there are glasses and ice so you can have a sneaky drink in the tub, lovely!
I would definitely recommend this hotel and the location is perfect for tram, train, shops etc

I booked Great John Street Hotel as a Valentine's day treat for the Fun Prevention Officer (wife) and she/we wasn't/weren't disappointed. The staff and service were superb and our room (upgraded to a suite) was big, beautifully done, freshly painted and spotlessly clean. The only thing that topped it was breakfast in bed - the best full english in Manchester by a mile and incredibly indulgent to have it lazing in a super king. High recommended.

Room Tip: Order breakfast in bed. Do it. Yes it's no cheap but you won't be disappointed.

Had afternoon tea at the hotel on Sunday afternoon and was directed to the top floor which was really good as the sun finally shone after weeks of rain! The afternoon tea itself was presented nicely with the finger cut sandwiches served on a wooden board and the cake selection on a three tier silver cake plate

Sandwiches were more bread than filling and there was no explanation of the flavours presented to us........I think ham and cheese, very much in the old 'British Rail' fashion, without any dressing, a cucumber, a smoked salmon and I think what may have been chicken in mayonnaise.

The cakes were delicious, but again without any explanation of the fillings. I have an issue with 'clotted cream' I remember it as being creamy and thick and unctuous with a crusty top, however here at the hotel it was more like butter!

Whilst we were asked on a number of occasions whether we needed anything else, there was clearly an absence of attentive staff.

All in all, I think what was an OK experience could have been fantastic with a little more attention to detail

PS - replace that old 'rubbermaid' trolley with something more fitting for use in front of house areas........even if you're just travelling through

Was taken here last week for afternoon tea for my birthday and it was lovely. A particularly cold and windy day here in the Uk but with a very warm welcome at this hotel. Beautifully furnished in a traditional and yet modern style, cosy and yet sophisticated, finger sandwiches, cakes, scones & cream with lots of tea served, of course, on china. A very lovely hotel and birthday experience.

Tip
This hotel offers a gentleman's & ladies afternoon tea and I think that you probably need to stipulate which you require at the time of booking.....we did not realise this and were served with two ladies (traditional) afternoon teas, please believe that this was no hardship, just lovely.

My wife and I held our wedding at GJS the last Sunday before Xmas (22nd Dec 2013), and it was the most magical and enchanting venue we could ever have wished for. The whole day was brilliant thanks to the fantastic staff. From planning the wedding months in advance, to the day and even after care the whole experience was incredible. Our guests all raved to us about how this hotel was so fantastic and a hidden gem. Cannot thank everyone involved enough for making our day so incredible.
The evening before our wedding the hotel allowed us to have a private dining area for guests staying the night before and created a lovely menu for us to choose from catering for both adults and kids alike. On the morning of the wedding our day co ordinator was on hand from very early to guide us through our day ensuring we wanted for nothing. The food was excellent (we recommend the trio of desserts!) and the service prompt and very flexible, when some guests wanted to make last minute food alterations the hotel was well equipped and extremely helpful in ensuring our guests also enjoyed the day as much as we did! Really cannot speak highly enough of the professionalism of the staff. We then also enjoyed a lovely buffet breakfast the morning after our wedding which all the guests thoroughly enjoyed! Beautiful venue, great location for travelling to as close to city centre but also good for motorway access - hidden gem!

Myself and my girlfriend stayed here for our anniversary.
Our room was beautiful (Eclectic Grand Suite). Split over 2 levels with a bathroom upstairs with steam room and even 2 baths! The nicest hotel room I have ever stayed in.
I booked over the phone with Jessica at the hotel, she was amazing! I informed her that I was booking for my anniversary with my girlfriend. She said she would try her best to make it extra special for us and she sure did!
On arrival we were warmly greeted and showed to our room. There were personalised handmade chocolates with 'Happy Anniversary' wrote in white chocolate. Which were delicious! There was then a knock at the door and we received a glass of champagne compliments of the hotel.
It was without a doubt one of the best hotel experiences I have had in my life and all the staff at the hotel were fantastic and really friendly, couldn't fault it!
And to top it off there is even a hot tub on the roof! Loved it!

We had a nice time visiting this hotel but was a little disappointed with a few things. We had a standard room with a split mezzanine level. Bed and bathroom upstairs with a seating area below.
The room was extremely hot and uncomfortable to sleep even though we turned off the radiators. We even opened the window.
There were a few dirty marks and bad paint jobs which for a 1# hotel that shouldn't be the case.
The tv remote wasn't working despite one of the staff trying to fix it. A bit of a pain when trying to relax in bed.
The bar was pricey, £20 for two house red wine but the area was stunning.
Hot tub was not working on our visit and no bar staff to serve us on the roof bar and we had to order at the down stair bar to take up.
There was also a private party happening on the roof terrace and we could hear the noise slightly from our room on the second flooring guests above us until 2 am. Wasn't too loud but still worth pointing out.

Apart from that, we still enjoyed our stay. The shower and bath was great. The bed was amazingly comfortable and big. The hotel itself was impressive and near restaurants and bars.
