“Hostel quality for hostel prices”
Reviewed 11 December 2011

Looking for a hotel in the city centre to stay over after a Christmas party
Premier Inns etc were on average £100 so I looked a little out of town and found the Lansdown. Easily accessible by bus (approx 20mins) and a good price (£40)
Be aware you are paying a cheap price for a cheap hotel
The foyer and bar are nice and the staff were friendly. However the corridor to my sub-terranian room was like something from a Russian prison. The room itself was average size but was clean and sufficient. The bathroom was lifted straight from a prison cell and in need of modernisation but again was clean and sufficient and in full working order
Breakfast was small - two sausage, two bacon, a spoon full of beans and toast and coffee. But for £4.50 you can't really complain
Be aware if you expect Premier Inn quality you will be disappointed but if you appreciate you are paying less than half the price then the hotel was fine

I'm afraid that this is one of the worst hotels I've been to.
The carpets are filthy and the fixtures and fittings should have been replaced at least five years ago.
Perhaps the worst issue was the over-powering smell of air freshener.
On the good side, the staff were friendly and helpful, but I won't be staying there again, and I can't recommend it to anyone else.
And the moral of the story is - don't get bounced into booking a room before you check out Trip Advisor - I won't again!

Foyer is fine, but wiring looks a bit suspect. Corridors OK, room very shabby. No telephone, although it is advertised in the brochure in the room. Overhead lights only, no bedside lights. Top of toilet cistern and foot of pedestal both broken. Extractor in bathroom not working, so whole suite misted up. Shower was good, with plenty of hot water, but cubicle was small and shower head was 5' 6" high. Decent size pillows, two each, but very hard, as was the bed. We brought our own pillows, as experience from Travel Lodge has taught us. Cooked English breakfast was good and prompt. Bar has basic amenities and quite pricey, (for the student area- lots of cheap bars 2 minutes walk away). For the room prices, you get what you pay for. However, biggest problem is the noise. Wilmslow Road is deafeningly noisy, even with the windows tight shut - and we were 3/4 of the way to the rear, at the side. Also not helped by the Red Rum night club in the basement, Mon -Sat until 3 a.m., which you can hear quite distinctly, and we were on the opposite side of the building from the entrance.

We had a good stay - excellent value, cheerful staff and with a bus stop outside with zillions of buses. Comfortable rooms and bed - good shower. Happily recommend. Where Jcurlsalot got his/her opinion from is beyond me - must have been a different place - and obviously has time on his/her hands. Use them

Room Tip: Dunno - but 203 was good

This hotel was perfect for our needs, didnt want to stay in the city for £80+£17.50 parking then have to get cab back to fallowfields so we opted to stay near to the bars and clubs in Fallowfield and walk.

This Hotel is a perfect place to drop your gear go out, sleep for a few hours and check out, also has free parking (Limited)

Dont expect too much you get what you pay for.

I stayed here with friends after attending a wedding in the local area since all we really needed was somewhere cheap and cheerful to lay our heads for the night. After having my expectations lowered by other reviews on trip advisor I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The rooms were clean, the bed comfortable and the staff friendly. The place could do with a revamp, especially the bathrooms, and I am sure that had I been on a lower floor and wanted to get an early night that the club in the basement of the building would have posed a problem. As it was, the hotel suited our purposes perfectly and I would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the top floors.

After a hard days work on site we drove the 25 minute stint with hope that our beds would be comfy and our stay would be reviving.
What we found was something that to this day we can ONLY laugh about.

So we pulled up, outside of the hotel is a graffiti van which never moves, and a club attached to the side. Lots of drunk revellers loitering around outside, the doormen not really paying attention to the ones that are arguing or being sick all over the car park.
We stepped in to the lobby, it was a mixture of styles but mainly 70s kitsh mediteranian/arabic like with toilets we could smell as soon as we opened the front door. They smelt worse than a portaloo.

The lift was broken, so we had to walk past the smelly toilets to our coffin like rooms... i did mention coffin like didn't i..... Some of our lads are past 6'5" and these rooms were small 6ft by 5ft across.....
I speak for approximately 8 of us when i mention how the rooms were.

Bedrooms

* One lads bed was a boxed in cabin bed. This lad is 6'3" and heavy.
^ One lads window would not shut. So the noise of the club and the revellers kept him awake ALL NIGHT.
* All of our walls were paper thin
* Blankets were at best very thin.
* Teabags were disgusting
* My bed was like cement

Bathroom

* One lads toilet wobbled off completely
* Everyones bathroom ceiling was slanted. This meant that most of the guys couldn't stand up to use the toilet or use the bath.
*Bathroom water took 30 minutes to run even tepid. By then i was out of it.

I would like to point out that as the only 5'2" member of our team the rooms logistics space wise were fine for me although very pokey. But that is the ONLY pro i have to say besides... the bar.
The bar was overpriced but in order to tolerate the din of the club (or rather.... the constant thump) we decided to stay up, as we would've had to anyway. Considering the time in the morning the Receptionist/barman was a nice fella. However, he was a bit sharp and we felt as if he didn't really want us there. Which he probably didn't.

All in all, i've read several reviews before mine and it seems as if our rooms aren't half as bad as some of the others.. for one thing i didn't notice any dried blood.

Do yourselves a favour, stay at The Willow Bank hotel which is down the road, it looks much nicer and for your money i think you get breakfast included as well (which you don't, you have to pay £4.50 extra and judging by the STENCH of the toilets we ALL declined the offer and spent our money on breakfast in Wetherspoons down the road)
