A good looking building, just how I remembers library's to be as a child. I take my children there and they love it. Staff are helpful and atmosphere is great.

More than well worth a visit when reopened post renovations. Beautiful and monstrously huge, you really can't see it all or experience it over a single day.
Amazing, can't wait for it to reopen.

Does anyone remember the Shabby Tiger series - a story of people in Manchester during the depressed 1920s and 1930s. They were just building the Central Library then, part of the plot was a chance meeting outside the building site in Peter's Square. And it was a proud boast that it had never been closed since... that is until the council decided to refurb the place.. which wasn't needed. The Social Sciences library was one of the most beautiful public rooms in Manchester, now I believe it's going to be given over to interenet users. And Librarians ? Half of them have already lost their jobs, or been sidelined into other jobs for which they're not so qualified. Pat Karney - I remember when you and Graham Stringer were wanting Manchester to stand up to the Tories, as in Liverpool and Clay Cross. A sorry state you are today.
