The building has been lovingly restored and is beautiful inside and out. The old reading room is particularly worth a visit. The council customer service area with its large wooden doors and marble is also attractive, as are the curved corridors lined with study and meeting rooms. The refurb has added natural light and a great archive room which was really buzzing when we visited.

What a wonderful day you organised for the war horse day. Both my 3 & 8 year old had a wonderful day, and us parents did also.

Brilliant, friendly & helpful staff made it a brilliant day.

This was my first visit to the library since it reopened after being modernised. I was pleasantly surprised. There are 6 floors including the basement. Once you have sorted which floor you want it is easy to find what you want. There are computerised information points on all floors where you can do a search and obtain the reference number and location. You can join the library even if you don't live in Manchester all you need is some ID with your address on. I was interested in family history and the Manchester and Lancashire FHS are on the ground floor, and reference books on 4th floor. There are toilets on most or all of the floors. The cafe is on the ground floor, really nice food. Recycling bins are a bit confusing though, not well labelled.

I love this library. It is an interesting building with beauriful architecture. The cafe on the ground floor is good and staff very polite and friendly. There are some interactive tables which kids love too. Great coffee and cakes! Computer access is useful. Archives are good. It's a bright and airy place to be in. You can even go online on a computer to join the Library or any other one in Manchester. Very useful!

Just a short visit to show my daughter and husband the facilities the library has to offer, we were on a day trip into Manchester and decided to visit a number of places, this being one of them, very enjoyable hour or so wondering around the archives on the ground floor, took my husband as he wants to start researching his family tree and this has given him the inspiration to get started as there is plenty of information and groups that he can get involved with. I will go again as didn't get the chance to go on the higher floors to see the books as my daughter is a big reader and would enjoy going up there.
