“Excellent Hotel Good Location”
Reviewed 28 December 2012

My wife and I stayed for one night at The Hilton as part of a package trip to see Manchester United play on Boxing Day 2012. We had a room on the 11th floor which had stunning views of the city and the hills of the Peak District. The room was clean and spacious and had TV, wifi, a bathroom with a shower and bath, a t.v and safe. Very comfortable accommodation. the staff were extremely helpful and the breakfast excellent. The hotel is convenient for the car park (just across the road) and the metro which was a one minute walk away. The tram from there took us down to Old Trafford. The Hotel is very close to shops and nightlife. Overall a great experience.

We had tickets to see the football at Old Trafford on Boxing Day and so we decided to stay the night before and after at the Hilton.
We had two adjoining rooms for ourselves and our son. We were quoted £30'per person per night to upgrade to the Executive Floor, we felt £180 a bit steep so declined. As. silver hhonors member we were told we were entitled to a free bottle of water and a newspaper. on querying this I was told that we were allowed to have one bottle of water between the three of us over the two nights, and despite asking for it we never did get the newspaper!
We ate in the Podium restaurant on both evenings and the food was both good and good value, though the service was patchy.
The breakfast was also of good value and quality though we had to bring to the notice of the manager that one of the waiters was placing his thumbs all over the edge of the mug which was not nice! very nice cappuccinos and hot chocolate available.
The rooms were well equipped and comfortable.

Helpful staff, fab room (1514) cocktails in the Cloud 23. Great location, 15 min walk into city centre. Cabs easy to grab if feeling lazy (we did on a number of occasions)
Would stay again but worth checking for room deals as can be a little expensive for an over night stay.
Didnt eat in any of the hotel restaurants as wanted to check out the city restaurants and bars.
Wifi not included in our room deal

Room Tip: The higher The better..

Had a room on the 17th floor with a view of south Manchester. I booked this for a short trip just a couple of weeks before christmas and can't recommend it enough. The staff were really helpful and the room was clean and up on the 23rd floor where the bar 'cloud 23' was, it was a great view of the city.

I enjoyed breakfast on both mornings of my stay, with a nice relaxed atmosphere. Plenty of hot and cold food available.

I didnt eat in the podium bar, but enjoyed a few drinks instead.

On the whole a very nice stay, and although I didnt use the spa and healthclub, its there if you want to keep your figure trim whilst staying there.

I booked this for a short trip just before Christmas and can't recommend it enough. The staff were really helpful and the room was clean and up no the 22nd floor with great view. I travel to quite a lot of hiltons with business but in the UK and abroad and this has to be the best I've ever stayed in and even better it's in a great location.

Room Tip: If you'd like a night over in Manchester city centre and want a bit of luxury this is definitely...

We bought a one night stay in the Hilton on Sunday the 23rd December using TriVaGo to get the best price which was better than half the published price. The tip of asking for a room as high as possible is a good one and we had a 22nd floor room looking south, away from the town.

And that is really the only problem with this hotel: the location is excellent for the GMEX and is very close to the Halle Orchestra, but if you want to shop in Manchester's Andale Centre, PrintWorks complex or boutiques of St Anne's Square, you will be walking for about 20-30 minutes. There are lots of benefits to being at the edges of the shopping zones though- try Sopporo's the Tapenyaki restaurant almost next door, the museums of science and aerospace, the bars along the canal side starting from The Castlefield Basin all the way past the locks and into the centre of town. Theatres require a cab.

The hotel has a very small footprint but stretches up into the Manchester Skyline. Above the hotel is an apartment complex which doubles the height of the building. The extra £40 it cost to upgrade to an executive class room was redeemed during the 6-8 open bar and buffet made available in the lounge. This had more of a business class airline lounge feel to it with the way the food and drink were offered, and the wired Internet computers were a nice touch but far from an ideal working environment. The decor is based on silvers and whites and the full height glass windows, with 23rd floor views combine to give a feeling of openness. My observation with the seating is that it doesn't lend itself to groups of more than 2 people getting together- the high backed seats are grouped in pairs facing each other with a table in between. A few booths would have been nice.

The rooms were nice, though not as interesting as the Radisson's. The bathrooms were nice and bright with a frosted window in the wall to the bedroom. The shower cubicle's at MalMaison are more spacious but at the expense of a bath. All in all a nice room. The bed was supremely comfortable and I can only think of one hotel that I have stayed in that had such a nice place to sleep.

Car parking is no problem, the NCP over the road is so close it may as well be part of the hotel. Don't bother with the valet parking unless you just don't know what to do with all your cash.

We ate out so I can't comment on the food other than the lounge provided nibbles, which were plentiful and of a fair quality.

Breakfast can be taken in the lounge or main dining room downstairs (or in your room as long as you order before 4am!). We ate in the lounge, and it was a much more serene experience than the previous night (when one or two guests attempted to drink the free bar dry and ended up becoming acquainted with the bathroom by 7:30 instead...). Breakfast included hot serving trays of scrambled eggs, beans, sausages and the nicest bacon. Beyond the cooked items were Danish pastries, cakes, cereals, porridge, fresh fruit, fruit juices, yogurts etc. I wouldn't recommend the bakery items, the pains au chocolat were dry and dense, the pastries were dried out (but had nice fillings) and there were no croissants. There was a baguette there but it too looked lifeless. A real shame considering the excellent quality of the rest of the food. I am sure the main restaurant offered even more.

Finally the staff. Considering that we checked out on Christmas Eve and plenty of people who find themselves working over the festive period often feel glum (I know- I'm in the RAF!) the staff were very helpful, welcoming and cheery. Everyone we saw was more than happy to strike up a conversation which is a real boon if you travel alone as I sometimes do.

So all in all, well done the Hilton! The points about location really depend on what you want out of your stay and you can probably walk the width of Manchester in 45 minutes if you don't want to take a cab.

Escaping from our sons 20 Th. birthday party ,we decided on a weekend at the Hilton where we have stayed several times before.the hotel was very busy and this showed .telephone calls to reception to book a taxi went unanswered .the cleaning wasn't fantastic ,unexpected sun on Sunday showed a layer of dust and the staff were very keen to clear away the breakfast minutes after the latest arrival time was reached.

It also didn't seem reasonable that residents could have afternoon tea unless they has booked a month in advance .

we saw the refurbishment
of cloud 23 and the executive lounge. The first worked better than the second particularly at breakfast when those in groups higher than 2 had to sit on nightclub benches to eat breakfast .

We enjoyed our stay, as ever the hotel has great views ,the position is good and the rooms are great.
