“Poor”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 July 2014

The hotel is understaffed and as a consequence we queued for 30 minutes to check in. The rooms were tiny and very overpriced. The key card stopped working twice and had to be replaced (once in the middle of the night!). The next morning breakfast was tired, dry, we were given no information about what else was available and waited 20 minutes to be asked if we wanted coffee and toast. All in all it was poor and not what I'd expect from a mercure.

Very comfortable bed with views of surrounding buildings, hills beyond and the Wheel of Manchester. Even more great views from the restaurant where we had a very enjoyable breakfast. I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Manchester.

Room Tip: The higher up the building the more extensive the view...

I stayed here with my family this weekend and not only is the hotel in an ideal location in Manchester city centre but the staff were very friendly, the rooms were excellent, the food was amazing and I can't wait to go back for the hotel alone. the views from the room was lovely (across the city) wifi throughout, several channels on the TV, comfy beds and a powerful shower!
it's rare to find a large car park at the hotel's front door...can not fault this hotel. I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: 14 floor was where we stayed....beautiful room

Hotel location in the heart of the City is superb.
Although the room was on the small side , it was furnished with many amenties , it had everything most people would expect , tea and coffee , ironing board, and hairdryer for the ladies, qiuet air conditioning and a great comfy bed.

The hotel is very ugly and has a peculiar lay out with reception on the second floor. The room was tired, scruffy and dated. It was probably clean, but because the carpet was stained and the décor old and chipped it looked dirty. The day reception staff were very helpful but the night reception who checked me is was patronising and slightly rude. The contact telephone number for the hotel is a premium rate number which says it all - you have to pay to speak to them.
The room cost over £150 a night for mid week without breakfast which I think was poor value for money as it felt like I was staying in an old seedy motel. The sound insulation was very poor and I could hear the occupants of neighbouring rooms as clearly as if they had been in the room with me. I would never stay in a Mercure Hotel ever again after this - Avoid unless desperate.

Room Tip: Stay away at all costs

Stayed here for mine and my boyfriends 1 year anniversary- it was booked last minute through trivago so we didnt have to pay much in all fairness.

After attempting to find the hotel countless of times we finally found it as it is built ontop of other buildings and realised we had walked past it already.

Check in was easy and the guys on reception were polite and helpful- we were over the moon with our view as this hotel overlooks all the gardens and the view was spectatular!!

Location wise this hotel was perfect for us - we were going to bella italia across the way so only a short walk to the shopping centre with primark etc etc. could not fault location.

Room was clean and tidy - this is the 2nd mecure i have stayed at and ive never faulted them. BreAkfast was the usual with continental and fried varieties done the job for the journey home but never got hungry!

I would always reccomend mecure hotels as this one and (mecure watford) both exceeded expectations- so much that i emailled and said how much of a good time i had. They are better than travel lodge also!

Hope this review helped :)

What I really noticed about this hotel was how well trained all the staff were. I was greeted by everyone that I came across, with a good evening or good morning, accompanied by a smile. Check in was efficient and friendly. I was offered the opportunity to settle my bill that night if I preferred to avoid any queue the next morning, which was sensible.

I had asked for a quiet room and was given one facing away from Piccadilly Gardens. If you want a view, over the Gardens would be better as it is the main square in the City. The receptionist did kindly offer to change my room if I preferred. The hotel is extremely central, within walking distance of all that Manchester has to offer and only a 10 minute stroll from Piccadilly Station.

My room was on the 12th floor and one of my two pieces of minor criticism is that it suffered from the sound of wind howling outside. The hotel appears to have been completely refurbished in the last few years, so I was surprised that they had not done a better job on the window seals. That grumble aside, the room itself was beautifully appointed and had all that one would need for an overnight work stay (tea and coffee making facilities - with biscuits, an iron and ironing board, a large, well-lit desk and a large, flat screen TV. My second criticism is that you could not get any radio stations on the TV, which was a surprise these days, and I like to listen to The Today programme each morning. On a more positive note, though, there is a bath in the bathroom and good quality towels and toiletries are provided. The room was spotlessly clean. Best of all, the bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever slept in.

Breakfast was the usual buffet, although with such a brisk turnover that the food was all freshly cooked, and with good quality ingredients. Again, the staff were universally helpful and cheery. The B&B rate was £85.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the Gardens would be more scenic but, I was told, noisier.
