The Mint hotel is excellently located if you are arriving in Manchester by train (to Piccadilly) and the reception is impressive. Check-in was efficient and friendly, and we were able to check in a couple of hours early. The room was spacious, but did have a faint smell of cigarette smoke. We were asked if we wanted smoking or non-smoking and obviously picked non, but I didn't realise smoking was an option these days.

Downsides to the room were the lack of fresh milk, despite there being a spacious fridge and the instant coffee. I don't understand why a 4* hotel can't stretch to fresh milk and ground coffee.

The cost of the minibar items was extortionate and although I know this is standard in most hotels it is frustrating because surely they would sell a lot more if it was cheaper. I resent it being such a blatant rip off. The MAC tv/computer was a good feature, and reception were very helpful about printing off something for me when I couldn't do it myself. However, it felt like they had spent all the money on these fancy machines, and not bothered too much with anything else. The bathroom was pretty clean but we did spot a long hair that did not belong to either of us on the floor.

Despite the above, we may have considered staying here again if it hadn't been for our experience at breakfast the next morning. Breakfast, included in our room price, was served between 7 and 11. We turned up at around 10.10 and were advised that it was a half an hour wait. Luckily we had time to wait, but we would have been scuppered had we a train to catch. I have never ever had to wait to be seated in a hotel for breakfast. The staff were clearly very busy and stressed, and managed just to stay on the right side of civil but they were not nearly apologetic enough in my opinion. As more people turned up, and they ran out of waiting area, you could tell they were getting very harassed. We were finally seated, but overheard other guests being told it was an hour's wait! Totally unacceptable in my view. The breakfast was nice, but the toast we ordered was delivered to the wrong table and we never got it back. They were clearly so overworked there was no attention to detail. They spilt my husband's coffee, they spilt brown sauce on to the table. Slapdash.

So unfortunately, based on that I couldn't risk staying at Mint again.

For travelling by train this is superb location but also central enough for town. Efficient check in. Attractive comfortable rooms and impressive apple entertainment system. Iron and ironing board in the room as well as usual tea making facilities. Well stocked mini bar. Didn't get to use bar or restaurant but looked nice

We booked our room in advance in early April paying in advance for a room this Sunday so you can imagine how we felt when the same package could be booked at 1pm on Sunday for £10 cheaper, when Mint have our money since April. The room is nothing special not much better than a premier inn.
This morning I was really embarrassed when at breakfast that was included in our room rate, we were given a bill for £32 and made to feel like criminals when we explained full English breakfast was included in our room deal. The waitress ask us to prove it then said she would check it out and left us sat there for half and hour until we had to find her and she just brushed it off with a casual 'it's sorted' no apology at all.
To add insult to injury they then tried to charge us £30 for 21 hrs parking again no apology.
Wouldnt stay again

We booked an overnight stay with dinner and breakfast included. When we arrived we checked in with an unsmiling receptionist. She didn't mention the dinner in the tariff so we checked and she advised that the restaurant was fully booked so we would not be able to have dinner. We ended up arguing for a while as we believed that when you book a room and dinner you generally expect to be able to eat the dinner. We eventually managed to get a 6.00pm slot. Worn out from the terrible welcome to the hotel we went up to the room lay on the bed and immediately the phone rang and the restaurant manager put us straight, no dinner for us tonight as there was no room. Yet more arguing and we were eventually offered a 5.00pm slot. We gave up at that point, then another phone call....a cancellation! We could eat at 6.00pm! We got to eat the food we had paid for! We were in the restaurant from 6.00pm to 7.45pm and for all that time it was half empty! Absolutely pathetic customer service. Nice hotel if a little beige but service and customer care was rock bottom. Avoid.

we were booked into the hilton for a overnight stay as we were going to a wedding in manchester, hilton nhad double booked us so we were moved to the mint hotel

first impressions very smart and trendy hotel and lobby. check in was rapid they new we were coming.bedrooms very clean and imac entertainment ctr was impressive but no good for watching tv on. bed was a standard size bed and not very comfy. room well set out(we had corner room) bathroom and toiletries were excellent standard.

come back from wedding and bar area was packed due to take that crew staying there.but served rapid and bar was excellently stocked and did charge 5 star prices.

good overall stay but really do need to look at the size of the beds as premier inn have bigger beds especially when at least double the cost of a premier inn

Stayed only one night but impressed by the rooms and the location. Apple TV system, spacious room and modern facilities at a very reasonable price.

Stayed her for one Saturday night. As part of our package we had an evening meal in the restaurant and breakfast next day. We paid £119.00 for it all - pretty good value.

We arrived and the check in process was relatively painless. However, we were told we should have reserved our table in the restaurant and that there were no tables available for our chosen time of 18.00. We were mystified by this as we checked in 'early' at 14.00?!

The room was a mixed bag. Amazing bathroom with good shower but dirty stains on the carpet and burn marks on the furniture. It was very clinical and almost bland - felt like we staying in a hospital.

Later we went straight in the restaurant and sat down no problem! So the reception staff clearly didn't have a clue. The food was excellent. Staff superb.

Next day we had to wait to be seated for breakfast which was weird. The dining area wasn't big enough. The food itself was great.

All in all just 'ok' - communication between the reception and the restaurant needs to improve!!
