Booked the Doubletree at Picadilly for a night away with my wife on a Saturday evening. Managed to get a very good deal and I had seen the hotel previously and also read reviews when it was the Mint hotel, and all opinions were very good.
1st impressions were great, large inviting reception, friendly check in agent (Irfan) and a deliciously choc chip cookie upon check in.
We had a room on the 7th floor overlooking Picadilly station which was fine. The room itself was large. The bed was comfortable and the i-mac very flashy and had a lot of functions.
One downside was what appeared to be a spillage on the carpet, it was in lots of different patches so it looked like a can of fizzy pop had exploded and there were drops over a distance of carpet from the bed to the desk.
Besides this, was a good sized desk with 2 chairs, and plentiful storage. The desk overlooked the window, and would be a decent place to get on with business stuff I'd imagine as free wi fi is given,
The one minor issue with the room was the position of the i-mac in relation to the bed. As it was on the desk, it was at a 45 degree angle to the bed, and a fair distance away, so watching the TV in bed wasn't that great! I appreciate however that the 2 chairs could be used to watch TV rather than the bed.
The bathroom was nice enough, not overly large but the shower was really powerful. Unfortunately, the floor didn't look that clean. It wasn't filthy by any means, but it just didn't look that fresh. There was one "mark" on the floor which looked like it hadn't been touched for a while.
Despite this review reading like a whinge, there was plenty of good points and I would definitely stay here again if the price was reasonable. I also appreciate that Doubletree have only had this hotel for a short while, and things could change rapidly.
A decent stay overall and would recommend for an overnight stay.
