“THEATRE WEEKENDTO SEE CHICAGO AT THE PALACE”
Reviewed 8 November 2009

Had a wonderful time in Manchester and staying at the Citi Inn made it! The staff were professional and courteous. We had our evening meal there before the show and it was excellent in the restaurant lovely menu and wine exceptional value for 2/3 courses. Our room was spacious comfortable and contemporary with little touches like white dressing gowns the white company products wi fi mini bar - room service was brilliant asked for ice and 5 mins later was brought up a large bucket for our champayne. The breakfast was just yummie again staff very attentive would definitely stay again and am planning another celebration/theatre break very soon. Loved it Viv and family

We got a great rate of £79.95 with breakfast and were upgraded on arrival to a Club room ,which had views over the city. Lovely clean rooms with everything you could need.Although it was central it was very well sound proofed. All of the staff that we came into contact with were friendly helpful and polite. There was a good selection at breakfast wit attentive staff. i would definitely look for a City Inn wherever i was travelling to.

I've stayed here many times and always found it to be excellent - Maybe I now have high expectations and am getting fussy, but there were a couple of problems this time.
I'd reserved space in the bar a few months ago for a group of us to meet up. I signed a contract (no charge), then confirmed by e-mail the week before. We arrived on the night and no-one knew anything about it. The bar manager(?) arranged for us to use the blue bar which was ideal, but some of us had to stay behind in the Piccadilly Lounge to redirect others - Not great but we had a good night.

The hotel is now doing weddings, having been outnumbered by wedding guests at some hotels we were a little worried, but the ones we encountered were fine.
However! On the Saturday night there was a disco for one of the weddings. In our room we could hear typical family disco music and a DJ talking all the time - we were on floor 3 and it kept us awake until it finished. I've never had any problems at this hotel before so was really dissapointed to be kept awake. We reported this to the staff and they were good as always and we came to an arrangement, but the lack of sleep wasn't a great end to the stay there.
So overall it's still a great location, excellent staff (even if they've lost your bar reservation), but beware wedding discos and ask for a room on a high floor

Stayed at the City Inn on a Friday for a night out in Manchester. Booked around 3 weeks prior to stay and got very good value deal of £65 for B&B.
Rooms light and airy with temperature control. I Mac system in room makes them ideal for business travellers with free wi fi and internet connection through system as well as full range of TV and radio channels.
Our room was opposite the main road and the large screen by the train station but there was no traffic noise and as soon as the curtains were pulled, no light from the screen.
Good touches that you just don't usually get for a £65 price tag - white company toiletries and robes.
The beds were very comfy and the breakfast excellent value. You can pay seperately for breakfast on a room only tariff at around £13 and this is still good value as there is so much choice and all of a good standard.

Very clean and modern, central (right by picadilly station but not noisy) and very friendly staff.

My partner and myself stayed one night at the City Inn after seeing a show at the Apollo in Manchester, and our main reason in choosing this hotel was all the amazing reviews it had received on this site. Sadly our experience was far from amazing....it was distinctly average.

The hotel is situated right across from Piccadily train station and ten minutes from the Apollo, which made it idea for us. We decided to take the train because of the location and no hotel carpark.

We checked in Saturday afternoon, the receptionist was very friendly explaining all the facilities and told us exactly how to get to the Apollo. The hotel appeared very clean, with one member of staff wiping down the desk after every person checked in! Our room was situated on the 3rd floor, room number 326. This room is in fact a room for a disabled person but that didnt put us off as it was a good size with a very large bathroom. The Imac in the room was also a very nice idea, however the screen needed a very good clean! The room had what you expected, however even though it had a desk it didnt have a chair so couldnt really be used. My partner had to perch on a table in front of it to use the power points. The bed was nice and comfortable however the pillows were very hard and lumpy.

The major downside to room 326 however was that it is directly opposite a 60ft TV screen attached to the side of the train station! This means at night the room lit up like a christmas tree and even with your eyes closed you'd swear you were at a disco! The black out certains didnt really fit and so we didnt get much sleep.

The hotel also had a cocktail bar in the lobby which we used after our show. Firstly we waited at the bar for 5mins, no service! We were told to take a seat and we'd be served. 20mins later still no service so went back to bar....another 5mins before getting any drinks. Deffinatley a place to avoid even though it was quiet!

Come morning we found a huge queue waiting for breakfast and so decided to check out and go find our own food. Im guessing you would have to be down at 7am to have no queue!

For the rate of the room it wasnt too bad but expected SO much more!

I normally write lots. This time I don't need to. I booked this place. We stayed 3 nights. I asked my colleague what he thought and he said it's probably the best hotel in the UK he has ever stayed in. That sums it up. Ive stayed in some of the best in the UK and I'd wholeheartedly agree. A brilliant hotel.
