2nd time for New Year at Mint (was City Inn) in Manchester, had a great time again, only spoiled a little by the room heating not working effectively, soon put right quickly, and efficiently by hotel staff on New Year eve/day (3am in the morning). Food was, as last year excellent and the bonus of having the end room 9th floor with the views was an extra bonus. Thank you Mint Hotel for a truly wonderful New Year package.

I've no complaints about the room, quality of service, the location or food. However, if you visit the bar watch out for the surreptitious addition of a 10% service charge PLUS a 10% tip to your bar bill. Although this is itemised (in small print) on the bill there is no warning or explanation and it will only be removed if you challenge the bar staff (whose reply was that they would prefer the tip in cash!!)

This is a nice and modern hotel with an excellent location. It takes just a few minutes to walk to all the shops and sights of the city center. The rooms are nice and quiet even though the city center is just outside. It feels like the hotel has been renovated but you can still feel that it actually is an old hotel in some details, but that doesn´t matter. This is a nice option for staying in the center of Manchester.

We selected this hotel based on the reviews here and hoped they were true. We were not disappointed. The service was outstanding - as someone else said better than in much more expensive hotels. The front desk welcome was excellent. The apple equipment in the room was very nice as was the free wifi. The restaurant was very good too.

We visited Manchester staying at the City Inn over the Christmas period to spend time with our son who is attending university in the city.
It seemed many parts of the city had made the effort to create that festive feeling, however, this hotel didn’t try very hard to do the same.
With the exception of a wreath high on the wall and something which resembled a tree it was a poor effort, entering the hotel felt like walking out of Christmas, it was very disappointing and if that’s the best they can do we will stay elsewhere on our next visit.

Stayed for one night. Excellent quality but for a couple of small details.
As with many hotels you could hear doors banging and talking as people came back late at night.
The shower door wouldn't quite close so it was impossible to stop some water getting onto the bathroom floor. Also the tap in the washbasin was loose. But the towels and toiletries were very good. And the room and bathroom were clean and fresh.
Check in and restaurant staff were pleasant and helpful. Three of the yoghurts on the breakfast buffet were beyond their use by date. But generally standards were good and I can see why other reviewers rate it so highly

Second time we have stayed at this hotel but first as a "mint" one.
The things we loved about it first time are still there. The service, as far as I am concerned, is unrivalled in any hotel I have stayed in with a room tariff of under £200. Nothing is too much trouble and everyone was polite, friendly and exceedingly helpful. Due to my child's illness I was unable to use one of the night's accommodation we had pre-paid for and part of the rate terms and conditions were that the penalty for this was 100%. Never-the-less I was able to transfer the room with no trouble to some friends of ours so that the night was not a complete waste. This was all done last minute with the minimum of fuss.
Booking requests were taken care of - we asked for a quiet room on the side of the hotel away from the Picadilly flashing billboards on a high floor. Early check was not required but we did get it last time.

The room itself was well proportioned and set out. Lots of little touches which make a stay more comfortable like air con/heating set to your preference, sewing kits, ironing facilities in room, hair dryers etc and a fridge. The bed was large and comfortable with 2 fluffy pillows each. There is of course the Imac entertainment system which is fantastic and the free wifi great for iphone/smart phone aficionados. You can also plug your mp3 player into the JBL speakers which produced a good quality sound. We had a problem with the connectivity of the Imac in the morning of our stay but a technical person was sent to our room within minutes of me calling the problem into reception.
Shower was powerful and the smellies were good quality. Everywhere was clean and mostly well-maintained. I do think some of the fixtures and fittings in the room we were staying in were showing signs of wear and tear - bumps and bashes to the dressing table and a wobbly bedside light but this did not impact on the enjoyment of our stay in anyway. Also noticed the furniture in the lobby was in not quite as good a condition as it had been on out previous stay.
We loved the bar area, really fantastic atmosphere and not too ridiculous prices.
Caution: Check the prices before you give in to the temptation of the mini bar!

I think the hotel has got it almost perfect, certainly in the customer service dept it excels. It will have to make sure that the maintenance programme is constantly rolling over and keeping all it's bits and bobs in good working order to continue to be No 2 in Manchester as voted for by Trip Advisor members.

Our friends who had our first night's accommodation reported that they were also very impressed with the service and the quality of the hotel.
