“Modern and good value”
Reviewed 29 January 2012

Lovely modern hotel with good location next to Piccadilly station. We booked last minute and on arrival, we were upgraded to an i-room free of charge! Room was larger than average, modern decor and nice tiled bathroom with bath and huge shower! Parking was very easy as its just behind the hotel in a secure yard and quite cheap we thought, it was around £12 for 24hrs. Only 1 tiny grumble was the pillows felt quite hard but it certainly didn't spoil our stay.

We stayed 1 night. Room was big and airy (8th floor - city view), very clean, comfy bed and chairs to sit in, lovely bathroom (v clean). Breakfast A1. Our only niggle was that we'd been to see a sporting event which never finished until 10pm - we didn't worry as we'd already decided that with 24hr room service we'd grab something in our room. We left the event early to avoid crowds, jumped a taxi back and about 10:10pm I tried to order a burger (room service). I was told that burgers aren't served after 10pm and that it was only pizza and sandwiches - there were numerous other items on the menu - which I also assume weren't available had I of wanted them. I wish this was pointed out on the 24hr menu as we'd of made other plans later that afternoon.

Room Tip: 8th Floor City View (very quiet considering that there's a station next door - I never even hear...

I write this on behalf of my husband (Mr Stewart.) who stayed at this hotel for 6 months whilst working in Manchester. During this lengthy stay, he got to know all the staff and the hotel itself. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and clean. The city views are amazing (if you have an even-numbered room - which have the city views, and are at the front of the hotel. The odd-numbered rooms face towards the back of the hotel)). The staff went out of their way to accommodate any requests.
The only slightly negative comment would be that Check-in can be on the slow side when the hotel is busy, but don't let this put you off.
The restaurant is good, with freshly-cooked food and a wide choice (their Scottish steaks are lovely). Breakfast is really good in comparison to some hotels, especially the omelettes and poached eggs.
The staff were all very nice and eager to attend to your needs. Nothing was too much trouble. A special mention should go to the following members of staff who made this lengthy stay bearable and comfortable: Jade (manager); Chris (reception); all the restaurant and bar staff; and the fabulous chefs.
Overall, even whilst being away from home, this 6 month stay was enjoyable and this would be my first choice of hotel in Manchester should I next visit. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Manchester - you will not regret it.

Room Tip: Even numbers for city views. Try to get into a superior room for that little extra. Avoid rooms next...

Lucky enough to get the top floor (8th) with a view over Manchester, Picadilly station, Old Trafford and the hills in the distance. Large size rooms, well equipped, large comfy bed and cannot be faulted although it did take three attempts to get the broadband working, my key stopped working after day one and I had to pay for the newspapers I was asked if I wanted. Good brekky and friendly staff. Very successful event held there too in Picadilly room with 65 people.

Room Tip: Top floor overlooking the station is a dream for train buffs! But v quiet.

Stayed at the hotel on the 24th January while on businesses. The staff are second to none. All you need to do is ask them and they are more than help to help. Andrew the bartender is great, and Hannah and jade in the restaurant are are friendly. Rooms are a good size and very clean. I will be differently be back when i go back to Manchester in February.

Room Tip: Just ask the staff

Good value for money with the non-refundable offer at £100 for one twin with breakfast.
One of the biggest rooms I have slept in at a hotel.
Lovely breakfast, plenty of option and tasty to go.

I go to Manchester regularly with work and like to use the Macdonald. The rooms are modern and spacious, the staff are friendly, it is located right next to Picadilly train station and they do a nice breakfast. They have even given me a nicer room on occassion. Definately recommend

Room Tip: I prefer the city facing room
