“Lovely room and breakfast”
Reviewed 11 June 2014

We were allocated an 8th floor room with great views. The room was very well appointed with nice thick carpets, 2 armchairs, a Nespresso coffee machine and a lovely, well-lit bathroom. The bed was luxurious and large.
We parked in the secure car park (£20 for 24 hours) which was expensive but very convenient.
The breakfast was superb - managed to guzzle through fruit, cereals, full English then toast, washed down with freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh coffee. Service in the restaurant was attentive and polite.
We couldn't fault our stay - we'll be back!

Room Tip: Top floor for the views.

This was our first stay at The Macdonald Hotel and we will be staying there again.
The rooms were large-and also the bed was an ACTUAL double bed instead of two single beds pushed together! The bathroom was large-my girlfriend has decided she wants to steal the colour design in the shower for our new bathroom!

We had been told about the restaurant upstairs but we were going out to the theatre so unfortunately could not go. However the menu looked varied and thought about, which was nice to see.

Overall we had a wonderful stay and we couldn't believe we hadn't stayed here before so thank you!

I stayed for 1 night & was highly impressed with the room which was very spacious with a large bathroom. It was spotlessly clean & had all the factilities you would need.

The food was ok, average quality but I've had better elsewhere. Breakfast was a buffet and so some of the breakfast items had been sat around for a while. My bacon especially was rather over done. The service was good but I found the whole hotel rather impersonal and lacking in character. But the location is excellent & very quiet considering how close to the city centre it is.

My major gripe was that they initially charged to overcharge me when I checked out. When I queried it, the receptionist reduced the amount but still overcharged me. I insisted she look again & I had to go through every item I'd had & how much each one was before she got it right. These things happen, but an apology would have been nice.

Dear Deborah,

Thank you for taking the time to review us and I'm so sorry if an apology was not forthcoming at departure if an error was made on your bill.

We're a very open hotel and the team know already what the matter was an what we need to do to resolve it through learning going forward. Thank you for highlighting this.

We stayed in a double room on the 5th floor. The view was amazing over Piccadilly station. The hotel was really busy but never heard a sound. My husband and I were in town for our anniversary and this hotel was a perfect base for our stay. I recommend the breakfast highly, a full range of cooked, continental and cereals. Only one tiny thing, would have liked some real decaf coffee instead of the little Nescafé sachet I was given, not the nicest of coffee's, but that was my only gripe. I would come back here to stay ...... in an instant, excuse the pun. Room was spotless and the staff were excellent. Thanks again for the lovely service.

Dear HB19,

Thank you for your kind review and for where we got matters just right I am so pleased that we managed to exceed your expectations. Like all feedback we are constantly searching for improvements and although we do have Nespresso machines in our rooms I can see that you may not have chosen that offer or taken us up on the opportunity to take coffee in this manner.

Next time you are planning to visit please let me know so you can try that out as I'm sure you'll be really pleased.

Thanks you once again and we look forward to your return some time soon.

Stayed in one of the panoramic rooms and what a view! The room had some lovely touches. Nespresso coffee machine with a choice of coffee, a DVD player with a place to doc your ipod. Lovely soft robe and slippers, hair dryer and ghd hair straight

The hotel is in a great location if arriving on the train as Piccadilly station is not even a five minute walk away and the Manchester city center is only a short walk as well. Although you are by the railway station the rooms are very quite and you can hear no real nose.
The comfort of the bed and it's bedding would be one of the best I've stayed in within the uk.

The welcome we received when we checked-in was great we got all details on the hotel and it's facilities as well as what Manchester has to offer. A very swift check-in service.

We booked a table in the Scottish steak club for that evening and went for pre dinner drinks in the bar. We were served by a friendly member of staff who took our drinks order and we even got nice nibbles with our drinks, that's such a lovely touch! We went in to the restaurant and again service was very welcoming and friendly throughout.
Breakfast was very tasty with a good choice of hot traditional and continental with good quality fresh pure orange juice. Tea/coffee and toast orders taken and brought to your table so no waiting at a toast machine and queuing a coffee station.

All in all our over night stay was very enjoyable and will defiantly visit and recommend this hotel to friends and family.

Room Tip: If you want a good view of Manchester choose a top floor room

We had a lovely stay on Saturday night. The room was excellent (very spacious as other guests have commented), peaceful despite the location and size of hotel and breakfast was fine. Parking, while expensive, was secure and only a moment or two from what is absolutely a city centre hotel.Location is great, within easy walk of restaurants, bars, shops etc and the station is on the doorstep if you are arriving by train. However, my only gripe was the gym. While the equipment was fine, if limited, the height of the ceiling is just ridiculous! I appreciate space is limited but the decision to locate fitness facilities in the basement is plain daft. I'm hardly a giant at 5ft 7in and my head was not far off the ceiling while using the treadmill so you can imagine how that went for my husband how is a good foot taller! Perhaps a relocation of these facilities could be considered?!

Dear NealsHull,

Thank you for your kind review it is appreciated and we take on board all of your feedback I can assure you.

With regard to our Fitness Centre to be fair we don't offer it for memberships but keep it fully furbished with great fitness amenities and in a well presented manner for hotels guests to use free of charge as they so wish.

It is popular and well looked after but we don't promote it as something that it isn't preferring to utilise the rest of our hotel with a superb spa and fantastic meeting rooms, bedrooms, lounge and Restaurant facilities.

When next we refurbish please be assured that we will include your thoughts and again thank you for all your kind words I know it means so much to the team.

We stayed at the hotel on Saturday as always the staff were warm welcoming and efficient. We booked a standard double with breakfast as the rooms are huge ( No need to upgrade) . The bathrooms have a double shower and bath, with loads of space. The beds are so comfy and although the hotel was full we didn't hear a single noise in the night . The bar areas are warm and inviting & breakfast was delicious. Great coffee!

Room Tip: We have stopped a number of times and never had a bad room they seem to all be of a very high standa...
