After travelling China for a month, British restaurants just didn't match up but this one does! large menu full of traditional Chinese dishes, dim sum and an English menu with the more common dishes. Service was fast, full of Chinese customers, large restaurant but book first on friday/saturday evenings. Very reasonably priced and Chinese supermarket below. This is going to be a regular!!

We visited for the first time last week for dim sum on a Sunday. The restaurant is huge. I am guessing that it easily seats at least a few hundred people. Even so, it was packed and the wait was about an hour to be seated. Fortunately, there is a great Chinese market downstairs and getting some shopping done was a good way to kill some time. Upon being seated, you are presented with a pile of menus... there are banquet menus, dinner menus, specials, dim sum... some in English and some in Chinese. The good news was that the dim sum menu was in English (I don't read or speak Chinese) but the self-order dim sum sheet was only in Chinese. Therefore, a waiter had to fill the sheet out for us. After that, it was smooth sailing and the food came quickly and was wonderful!

As an aside, the restaurant seemed very understaffed. I noticed that it took 10-15 minutes for them to reset a table after a party left - even though there were still dozens of people waiting for tables. Also, they have one bartender that was responsible for both taking drink orders and delivering them to your table - very inefficient and slow. I would have had at least two more beers had I been able to flag him down over the course of our meal.

Despite the wait and inefficiencies, Tai Pan is putting out a great product. I should mention that about 90%+ of the patrons were Chinese... that is always a good indicator of authenticity!

Been to this restaurant many times for about 8 years. Food always good and consistent.

It's hard to find a decent chinese but this is good. Saturday and sunday lunch dim sum is always good.

Only thing is, since they redecorated and put laminate down, the noise is really bad. Chinese restaurant are loud anyway and need the carpet to absorb some noise.

We're regulars and go every weekend for dim sum (like a Chinese version of tapas) and we also enjoy their rice and noodle dishes. Fantastic choices, everything is always delicious. Never a long wait for food even when it's busy, which is great when you're out with family and have young children. We also like to take a trip to the Chinese supermarket downstairs where they stock a wonderful array of fresh, frozen and dry authentic oriental ingredients (far cheaper than knock off oriental ingredients on offer in normal supermarkets). Only downside is there isn't always a parking space available as it's always quite busy whenever we've visited, but there's always a parking attendant directing traffic to available spaces which is helpful. It's also accessible by public transport, there's a bus stop nearby. If you haven't been, definitely worth a visit! :)

Sunday - Dim Sum great way to share happiness with friends! £10 between 6 people of 15 dim sums and a noodle dish. This is always busy on a Sunday, therefore there will be a ticket system where you will have to wait. However I love ordering the steam and deep fried prawns with salad cream is a must try. Get vaule for money gathering place to be!
