Isinglass in Urmston Manchester serves excellent food in a lovely relaxed atmosphere. It is a limited menu, but always cooked to perfection- they always use locally sourced food. Its best to book as limited in seating if you want to eat at a busy time.

My one complaint would be they didnt have the elderflower drink last time we went, and i feel that always compliments the taste of the food if you dont want/need alchohol.

For non drivers it is only 2 minutes across the road from Urmston train station, the Liverpool to Manchester Oxford road line.

I went for the first time with my boyfriend. We were greeted by the owner who was lovely. The food is delightful and well presented. I had the pork dish and it was the best meal I have had in a very long time. The owner was super friendly and made us feel like a guest in her home. I will be telling all of my friends about this great place and visiting again very soon.

Went with friends on a very Saturday busy night and had to wait a wee while for our (booked) table but not inordinately so. On a plus, we were greeted pretty much immediately and offered drinks to ease the delay.

The menu was quite limited in choice and seemed to want to take good food and try too hard with it. Consequently, I ordered the mussels, actually a starter, as an entrée. While pleasantly flavoured in a creamy leek and lemon sauce, one of the shells had broken giving the dish a very much unwanted crunchy dimension. Quite simply, this is an obvious and unforgivable faux pas for any chef when serving shellfish.

One of my dining companions had the venison - overpriced at £25, especially when one considers that didn't include any accompaniments; something the waiter negligently omitted when ordering. Quite what he was thinking when he delivered a solitary, lonely venison steak abandoned in the middle of its oversized plate, I really can't imagine.

To be fair, my other dining companion was happy in all respects with her vegetarian choice but one out of three is bad.

My fiancee and I visited the Isinglass on Saturday night as an engagement celebration with friends. We have been on many previous occasions and have never been disappointed ... until now! Upon our arrival we were given menus and when the waitress came over to take our orders she went straight to the food and didn't even offer us any drinks! When we asked for drinks her lack of knowledge was clear as she didn't even know the house wines or any of the beers the restaurant stocked. We are far from being restaurant snobs but if you are new to the job at least let your table know although why they would give a new staff member a table of 8 is beyond me, especially when the restaurant is only half full and other staff are clearly not busy. One member of our party had to wait at least an extra 10 minutes for their starter to arrive, despite us being told "one minute" over and over with no real apology. They attempted to rectify this by giving one extra scallop, wow! Again for the main course 2 of our party had to wait another 10 minutes after we were served, their excuse was the pork took longer to cook! The food was delicious, if not cold after waiting for other meals to arrive. When we complained they took one bottle of wine off the bill but when it arrived they had added 2 extra steaks, 2 side orders and a dessert we hadn't had! When I pointed this out to a member of staff she accused me of not being able to read the bill properly! She then saw the mistake was theirs and not so much as a sorry was muttered. It took us ages to catch their eye for the bill, very frustrating when you can see the waitress playing on her phone! As much as it pains me to say, our experience was truly awful and I will never go their or recommend it again. A real shame after many a memorable evening has been spent their prior to this. Pull your socks up Isinglass, there are plenty of cheaper restaurants that far outshine you.

Recently visited here for my birthday. After a small mix up with some birthday balloons on the wrong table. We were eventually seated on a lovely table in the back of the restaurant.
Wonderful Rioja 2008 wine about £16 per bottle.
Starter of venison pastry, which was absolutely gorgeous. Cost about £7.
My friends had mussels too which looked lovely.
Main was baked fish with orange. This was absolutely stunning and presented fabulously. Homemade chips alongside. Highly recommended. About £14
Another friend had guinea fowl which looked tremendous with mash.
Very pleased with the overall meal. Will be going back again x
