I was introduced to this restaurant 10 years ago by Giorgio Brugnoli, a man who knows his Italian food ! I have been back several times since, most recently Saturday April 20 in a party of four. Although Saturday is a busy night, the service was very prompt and friendly.
The restaurant itself is always very clean, starched tablecloths and napkins and has a really pleasant 'ambient' feel - in stark contrast, it must be said, to San Carlos (less than 150 yards away) which always seems frantic and noisy and in a rush to get rid of you !
The food at San Roccos was superb - the juicy spare ribs just fall off the bone and I don't think I've tasted anything quite as fantastic as the scallops wrapped in parma ham. Chichen in white wine / mushroom sauce was cooked to perfection as were the fillet steaks - dreamy stuff.
We had starters / mains and coffees, two rounds of drinks and a very decent bottle of Shiraz for £127 for four - so just over £30 a head. That doesn't sound too expensive to me for brilliant quality food, in a lovely setting in central Manchester. Taking all those factors into account, I doubt if there's a better Italian restaurant in Manchester.
