This was our first meal in Colmar after arriving late on a chilly Friday night and it hit the spot: a small, wonderful, family-run, very friendly place. The mixed salad was generous and seasonal and tasted as vegetables should taste, the tarte flambée had a delicate thin crust and the Baeckeoffe was hearty and rustic (spoiler alert: this dish contains pigs trotters when prepared Alsation-style). The extremely friendly service really set the tone though. It's a small place though -- maybe best to call ahead.

This is a light open restaurant with very good staff who were efficient and friendly. Two very good set menus - one local and one fish both for 24.50 Euros. Locally crudites means a small mixed salad which was one of the starters. Another was the same salad with a very large wedge of excellent quiche. The casserole main course is similar to a large mixed meat Lancashire hotpot very tasty. The Choucroute was one of the best I have and had very good choice of pork cooked in various ways with sauerkraut and potatoes. We both had a lovely selection of cheese to follow. Wine is by the bottle or pichet. Excellent hearty portions for a good price.

We arrived late but they didn't seem like it was any problem. The service was outstanding as was the food. We had a cassolette with ham and munster along with a lamb in cream sauce with mushrooms, fennel, carrots and potatoes. When we left, we were the only ones remaining in the resturant, but never felt rushed or pressured to leave...wish we could have eaten here again before we left!

The menu is not extensive but appropriate for a small establishment run by a husband and wife team who are proud to serve fresh local ingredients beautifully prepared. The Onglet and the veal that were served as main courses were delicious and prepared with excellent mushrooms and other vegetables, the house wine selection was reasonably priced and of good quality.

To find honest cooking in a tourist centre is rare, Aux Armes de Colmar delivers this rarity and deserves praise for doing so.
