Very well located in the heart of Colmar and very affordable. This is a no frills but very clean hotel with awesome air conditioning and a good sized bathroom. Check in was a breeze with an elevator and friendly staff.

We went to Colmar on a recommendation for three days from Paris. It is very touristy but a good base to explore the Rue de Vins. The hotel was excellent. While it is in the heart of the tourist center and thus a bit overwhelming, it is quiet and peaceful inside. We got a room overlooking a courtyard which helped. The staff is very helpful with bus and tour information. The room was a fair size for two people and the bathroom was good.

Room Tip: Over the courtyard.

Colmar is a great city for a short break. Quite aprt from being one of the most picturesque and unspoilt medieval French towns I've been to (with, it must be said, tourist crowds to match), it has some excellent restaurants and shopping. The Unterlinden Musem is currently being refurbished, but several masterpieces (including the Issenheim Retable by Grunewald) have been moved to the nearby Dominican Church. The fourteenth century (yes, that's right) Hotel Saint Martin is a great location, right in the city centre. The rooms are clean and comfortable, furnished with antiques, and represent very good value for money. The only bizarre touch are the ceiling tiles, which look like a job lot from a provincial airport and are totally out of keeping with both the room decor and the age of the hotel. Breakfast, as with many French hotels, is extra - and if you can wait for your morning coffee there are plenty of places close by where you can grab a coffee and croissant for much less. There is no on-site parking, but free public car parks are within a few minutes' walk. Free wifi made the kids happy. There was quiet and effective aircon in our rooms (but not in the kids' room, they had to make do with a fan) and we had a great night's sleep, though would have appreciated bedside lights on BOTH sides of the bed. Would definitely go back, and stay again.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the back, overlooking the little courtyard.

We are a family that tries to economize when traveling overseas. Maybe that is why we appreciated the St. Martin more than the other properties we stayed at on our recent vacation. It certainly has charm, history and location--which are also important to us. But after a few days in Paris, we were especially grateful for its elevator, ample room size, air conditioning and helpful front desk staff. The St. Martin is right in the heart of historic Colmar, across the street from a large market, which always comes in handy. We had no car, but did not mind the ~25 minute walk from the train station to the historic center during our stay (as we "commuted" to the train or bus we took to other towns on the wine route). [Note that on the day of your arrival, you may want to take a cab if you have a lot of luggage.] When you are less burdened, get to the gare by walking through the nice park, which includes historic fountains and a carousel. The more modern water features were filled with joyful children on a sunny afternoon last week. Little Venice is definitely the most picturesque part of town. Our favorite Wine Route excursion was walking the vineyards between Hunawihr and Ribeauville (be sure to the the bike path, not the roadway that connects the two towns). Enjoy your visit!

Yes, the location is great. The outside of the building is charming. The room was very tired looking. Uncomfortable bed. One bedside lamp bulb had burnt out and the owner had bought the wrong size to go in it. Rather than go get the right size, the wrong one was just left rattling around in the socket. A sure sign of a lack of care.

We stayed for 4 nights hoping to take advantage of some outdoor biking and hiking. The hotel is perfectly located to see everything in Colmar. It had air conditioning, which we prefer. It was clean and the staff was friendly. The serve a very nice breakfast with many options. It's a bit pricey at 12 euros, but if you eat a big breakfast and grab a takeout sandwich for lunch, you can keep costs fow. Grocery and bank are right across the street. Many restaurants and wine shops close by. About 15 to 20 minute walk from the train station, taxis are available. Without a car getting to other towns on the wine route is a pain. Especially with an abbreviated summer schedule for the bus. Definitely not expensive to stay. I would recommend.

We got off the train and the taxi driver suggested this hotel. Perfect location in the heart of town. While we are young, fit and walk everywhere, with luggage the taxi was the way to go. We had a great late dinner at The Romantic Restaurant located right next door (loved the linguini carbanara). The next day they allowed us to leave our luggage in the hotel lobby until 4 pm so we could explore. There are no formal lockers, but we locked our bags together and knew no one in town would be able to lift them. We took the little train tour which was fun and then walked most of the interior of the town. The room was beautiful and you felt like you were back in the 40's with the decor, but with all the current amenities.
