I have read in some review that this hotel is considered the best in France.- I think that it is not true, there are better hotels in France, but this surely is one of the finest.- The old house in which is located is surprising, the rooms are big and very comfortable, the staff is very kind, helpful and professional.- The location is not bad but it is strange with a difficult access if you go by car (the hotel has no parking), this is the only little thing that can cause you some trouble but is compensated by far with the fine items and details of this really amazing hotel.- The breakfast also is very good.- I will recommend this hotel for sure.-

My daughter and I stayed at Cour Du Corbeau for two nights. Located down an alley, it is a bit intimidating for walking at night, but is very centrally located in beautiful old town Strasbourg within easy walking to the exceptional Cathedral, shops, and restaurants. Our room (the least expensive in the hotel) was spacious and comfortable, but had absolutely no view and was slightly below street level. The temperature was a bit warm for sleeping with the standard duvet in European hotels, so I called the front desk and discovered that we had no individual thermostat, but they promptly brought us a fan that kept us quite comfortable. The staff spoke perfect English and was very friendly and accommodating, making restaurant reservations for us and attending to our every need. The hotel has a nice bar with reasonable prices (for France). I would definitely stay here again.

Originally opened as an inn in the early 16th century, the Cour du Corbeau lays claim to the oldest hotel in Europe. Falling into neglect and disrepair in the 1980’s, the building was rescued and renovated in the 2000’s and opened under Accor’s “MGallery” banner of boutique and historic hotels. Walking along the corridors, outdoor passageways, and cobblestoned courtyard certainly gives the impression of age as most of the external structural elements and trim were kept intact during renovations. This can certainly be seen by observing the way the horizontal wooden beams appear to have “melted” over the wooden columns.

We arrived by auto, so this paragraph relates to this method of transportation. A common concern I had read before our stay is the difficulty locating the hotel, because the “front” entrance is actually in a narrow street (Rue des Couples) running perpendicular to the riverfront avenue (Quai des Bateliers). Entrance to Rue des Couples is prevented by way of one of those hydraulic “pop-up” posts which retracts when the hotel is contacted by way of a call-box. Finding this call-box can be accomplished in a few ways: the old-fashioned way with a map and good judgement. You may also print off and follow the directions provided by the hotel, which are quite accurate but may be tough to follow in an unfamiliar city. We programmed our GPS with the exact coordinates provided by the hotel, which brought us right to the call-box. Whichever way you choose to navigate, I highly recommend using Google Maps’ street-view feature to recon the entrance before going. Your car can be self-parked in a public parking space following bag drop-off, or the valet can park it for you for a small fee – we chose the second option just for the convenience. Pedestrian access to and from the hotel is from the inner courtyard through a small archway on to Quai des Bateliers, from where you can walk to the cathedral in five minutes.

I had originally booked a superior room but was upgraded to a junior suite because our check-in date was on my wife’s birthday, a detail I had conveniently “let slip” in the comments section of the booking request on the Accor site. Check-in & check out were very smooth, and the staff on duty were happy to help with questions, directions, and information.

The room was very spacious and well-appointed with white Louis XV-style furniture, and the bathrooms are gorgeous with a tub, shower, and any amenity you could desire. Bathroom floors were cut and polished river-rock, and bathrobes and slippers were provided. One oddity – the actual toilet was in a separate room from the bathroom and was located off the main entry. That wasn’t a bad thing, just unusual, especially by North American standards. The room overlooked the inner courtyard, so no street noise was noticed at all. Wifi was free and reliable. The bed was quite comfortable and the pillows were above average.

Breakfast was served in the restaurant off the lobby, and was fairly typical for a European hot breakfast (in fact, it appeared to follow the “Accor/Mercure” standard fairly closely). Scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, and a good selection of cereals, yogurts, baking, fruit, cold cuts, and cheese.

To summarize the Cour du Corbeau is a gem, and is a comfortable (bordering on luxurious) well-located hotel from which the environs of Strasbourg can be easily explored on foot.

Upon arrival we were told we had been upgraded which was nice. When we got to our room we found it pleasant with access to our own patio and garden area. A very nice touch . A complementary bottle of wine was provided which went down well. Great location and ideal for visiting Strasbourg . Bed was much too hard for my liking and awoke with back ache. Pillows weren't great (uncomfortable) but it does say that you can get feather pillows. From reception which I would recommend you ask for upon arrival. So not a great nights sleep. Bathroom was large and looked lovely with twin sinks. Bath was nice but shower was badly positioned on wall and was not powerfull enough. Even so plenty of water on floor as no shower curtain. Breakfast was typical French continental and fine although expensive for what you get. the hotel itself was also Expensive but you are paying for the location. I would come back to this hotel but would get the sleeping situation sorted before I got there to ensure the bed was softer and feather pillows were available in room.

Don't get me wrong; the hotel is amazing. Very fancy, classy, modern, stylish, wrapped in tradition, but... For work related stay, when you have to quickly come in, shower, change clothes, apply make-up and leave - I don't recommend. There's no parking and once you get in to the street, it takes quite some time to get out. Lights in the room and bathroom look very lovely, but are useless if you need light on your face. If you need to quickly dry your hair, that ain't going to happen because the hairdrier blows only cold air. Anyway ... it does look amazing and I would recommend it for relaxing vacation, no stress, no work. But it's simply not practical.
