This museum takes you back in time to reality. Such an eye opener to see how life once was. So so interesting.

Located in a 17th century building in the centre of the city this museum is worth a visit. It consists of several buildings joined together which show how life was lived in Alsace from 1600's. There is an audio guide but not all the exhibits are covered and the signs to the ones that are are not always clear. Recommended.

This museum is great for everyone - kids AND us elders. It's loaded with tools, rooms, equipment, costumes, history, in beautiful rooms that just go on and on. There's at least one central courtyard with a bell-ringing gadget-guy on a balcony that's almost worth the price of admission. There is a carpenter's shop (complete with shavings) and a wine press in the basement. You can't touch, but you can get pretty close to life in this area for lots and lots of years. There are rooms about religion, including the jewish history of the area. Lots of dioramas that will capture kids' attention for at least a few minutes. It was warm and dry on a cold rainy day, and I'll bet it's cool on a hot day. Highly recommended.

The museum had a headset which was good. The staff were friendly.

The exhibition itself was very interesting and showed furniture and lifestyle items (birth, death, marriage, army, kitchen, bedroom).

We found this better than the Historical Museum. If you can only do 1 museum in Strasbourg this is the one I'd do.

This lovely museum in a magnificent old town house has a wealth of historic exhibits, folk art, costumes and furniture displaying the history of life in Alsace. Everything's beautifully laid out, I especially liked the room settings, the historic costumes, the display of old toys, and the exhibits and videos demonstrating how the traditional Alsacian saltglazed pottery is made. Loads of atmosphere! One word of warning: there are loads of steps and (due to the age of the building) no lifts, so don't attempt this one if you're old or infirm. Otherwise, go and enjoy it!
