If you love the Musee du Cluny in Paris (which I do), then you'll love this. In a beautiful, ancient house not a gargoyle's throw from the Cathedral, you'll find this collection of exquisite carvings and glass, not only from the Cathedral but from many other Alsacian churches as well. There is a wonderful sense of peace and serenity which I found completely lacking in the crowded Cathedral. The artworks are beautifully presented, and it is a revelation to see at close quarters the magnificent statues from the frontage. When they were on the cathedral, they were too high up for one to be able to appreciate the astonishing detail and the fineness of the carving. Similarly the exquisite stained glass, originally installed hundred of feet up, is quite remarkable at close quarters. And when you've had enough of old stone and glass, you can relax in the enchanting little mediaeval garden, surrounded by the bustle of the streets surrounding the cathedral but somehow completely separate from it, an oasis of peace.

Loved seeing the "rescued" stained glass and statues from the cathedral. Really fascinating to see so many very old artistic objects. Definitely worth seeing combined with the cathedral visit.

This museum right next to the cathedral lets you look close up at some of the original statuary from the exterior -- it has been put in the museum to safeguard it from the elements, and replaced with sandstone replicas on the edifice itself. Also, you can see some stained glass up close, and part of the original interior screen. If you're a cathedral buff, you'll find it interesting.

The museum covers a range spectrum from parts of the Cathedral to 16th/17th centuary furniture from Strasbourg richs' houses. I was expecting primarily to see more about the way Cathedral was constructed and pieces related to it. While there are some sculptures and pieces ofwork from the cathedral, the exhibition is somewhat limited. Stages of the construction are shown but not many details.

I big handicap is that most of the descriptions are only in French.

Overall half an hour is enough for the museum.
