“Nice and handy”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 December 2013

Christmas market... Strasbourg... Near impossible to find a hotel over the St Nicholas weekend but luckily we managed to book a double room at the Pax hotel. The good: Location, perfect, very short walking distance to the old city, tram stop right outside the hotel (Strasbourg has an amazing tram network and very cheap) and a very quiet area (no cars). The bad (well, not so good): The rooms are very standard, quite small and not so well sound insulated, and quite worn. The hotel restaurant appears closed all the time. The ugly: Staff quite friendly but only one of them at a time (despite very busy period). So very annoying wait to check-in/out, ridiculous for a hotel that size (90 rooms) receiving many German groups etc.
Still, we are happy they had a room for us, we had a great stay.

Room Tip: From the pictures they seem to have some renovated rooms, so perhaps ask for one of those.

Works are ongoing and 2nd floor at least was dusty. Noise seemed to carry from other rooms.
We asked for wake-up call and didn't get one.
Staff were friendly and we picked it for it's proximity to the station as we had a 6am train departure.

Room Tip: We were at the rear and there was no external noise.

4 nights with triple room for 100 euros/night. Public areas in need of refurbishment. Room spacious and well serviced daily. Staff efficient and friendly. 250 metres from station and petite france, 800 metres from cathedral and city centre .Exceptional value

Room Tip: rooms at the back are quiet being remote from trams and traffic.

I paid 45 euros for a single room, so the price was VERY good respect to other hotels in a similar position. Moreover, it offers a protected private parking space for 9euros/night (to be booked in advance), the car must not be too big or you will need to leave the garage's door opened (still remaining in an internal protected area).
Coming to the hotel, everything is VERY old: carpet everywhere, often OLD and stained, with not a nice smell in the corridor. In the room it's the same: no more smell, but same carpet on the ground, and again dirty and damaged wall-paper. The bathroom was ok, even though there's just a plastic curtain in the shower. There was an opened "case" beside the toilet, with pipelines that could be seen (see pictures). I told this to the people at the reception, they told me "yes, we'll fix it tomorrow morning", but they never did.
Wi-fy connection is POOR, coming and going in the rooms, in any case there is a shared computer near the reception. Didn't try the restaurant or the breakfast.
The prices exposed outside are RIDICULOUS and OFFENSIVE: 85 euros for a single room, 105 for a double ... even 70 euros are TOO MUCH for a double room, considering there is an "Ibis hotel" right beside this one (I suppose respecting Ibis standards).
The position anyway is wonderful, 2 minutes from the beginning of the "grand rue", 5 minutes from the "petit france" area.
See the price on-line, if it's so much cheap think about it, but BE AWARE about it ...

The rooms are small and the hotel is quite old, but it is clean, the price is right and the staffs was super friendly and helpful. The location is perfect, only minutes to walk to the old part of town and maybe 15 minutes to the cathedral. We paid only €70 for a room for 2. If one prefers something luxurious and modern, then feel free to pay €200+ However, but you are looking to spend most of your time exploring this wonderful town and only sleep in the hotel room, then this is the perfect place.

Room Tip: Our room did not face the tram and was very quiet

We stayed a weekend during the Christmas-Market. It's great for the price during this high season time. The Breakfast was good and there was enough for everyone. The historic old town is in a walking distance. If you want to go a little further away, you can catch the Tramway right in the front of the Hotel. The beds are ok but nothing special. I would stay there again. Ask for a "backyard" room its less noisier, then on the front.

The WiFi was nonexistent. The toilet did not flush properly. Bedside lamp had no bulb. Windows couldn't be opened but did not shut tightly, so the noise of the trams outside from 4 a.m until midnight was very strong. The bathroom is very small. The place is run-down.
