Mercure Strasbourg Palais des Congres

I stayed one night here, and two at the hilton across the street. I rate the Mercure slightly higher, except the bed, which was better at the hilton. Better breakfast here, and about 10-15% less for the room. Wireless was OK, not real fast though. Connection dropped a lot, especially when watching a video as on you-tube. Close to tram for short trip to downtown. Bar was nice for beer. Only funny thing was the AC, when I arrived it was not working. I called the desk, they sent someone up promptly, who explained that 6mo of heat, 6mo of cool, which did I want? He then removed a knob, stuck in a tool, and the AC was running. No adjustment though, it was either all-on heat or cool. Adjustment by fan speed and on/off switch. A real pain. Would not stay here again just on this one point.

Room Tip: I would stay here if convenience to Palais Congres is important, otherwise something quaint downtown...

Ample free parking on site. Well located next to the (reasonably priced) tram system for getting into the city centre. Friendly staff. Very comfortable, clean room with all the facilities you'd expect. Quiet. Fabulous king-sized bed. No problems at all. Would recommend to anyone and would stay again. Top marks

The Hotel Mecure is a business hotel, seemed clean and friendly. The Front desk staff spoke enough English to direct us into Strasbourg. We took the train which is located right across the street. Plenty of parking, breakfast is available, but it was expensive so we ate elsewhere. Our room was comfortable for four adults (two parents, two grown children). Didn't seem to have air conditioning, but many in Europe do not. WIFI was available for free, which is a plus, and it worked well. They also have a lift. We'd stay here again and it was easy to get to.

Dear Madam, Dear Sir,

Thank you for the time you have taken to share your experience of your stay in our hotel.

My team and I are very grateful for your remarks. They will encourage us to maintain our efforts so that the services we provide for you fully meet your expectations.

However we took note of your remark regarding the breakfast. We propose 2 type of breakfast: the buffet breakfast at 20 Euros or the express breakfast, served at the Bar at 8, 50 Euros. Please accept all our apologies if we did not inform you at check-in. Be assured that the necessary corrective measures have already been taken to ensure that the quality level meets your expectations and earns your trust when you next stay with us.

About the air conditioning, it was unusually switched off, because of the very low temperatures in Strasbourg during that period.

We are looking forward to welcoming you again in Strasbourg.

Gym and pool open early and close late. Good for those like me. There's also the steam and sauna in there.

The room is comfortable and nice and the hotel is located in a quiet corner of the town. Breakfast was okay.

Stayed May 24,25,26, 2013. Had dirty stained towel in bathroom. Someone in our party called the front desk to ask about air conditioning and the desk said open a window, no a/c. Carpet dirty, wallpaper coming off, walls marred by people banging with suitcases, no safe in room and our room was in the front of motel, all night noise from trains. Motel was Holiday Inn and they sold it six months ago. No robe or slippers but sign in bathroom said you could rent one for your stay for 10 Euro's. when room was cleaned wash cloths were not replaced and used plastic cup was not replaced. Hotel did offer free wifi.

Dear Sir, Dear Madam,

By answering our questionnaire, you have taken the time to give us your opinion about your stay in our hotel, and we thank you.

We are sorry that the room did not meet your expectations. Be assured that the necessary corrective measures have already been taken to ensure that the quality level meets your expectations and earns your trust when you next stay with us. Do not hesitate next time to inform reception regarding the noise; we could have changed your room for one on the other side of the building.

For several weeks, the weather in Alsace was cold and wet. So we decided to keep the heater switch on and not the air conditioning. For that reason, Reception proposed you to refresh your room by unblocking the window for you to open it.

Also safes are available for free at the Reception.

Despite this inconvenience we hope that you enjoyed your stay in Strasbourg and we are looking forward to welcoming you again in our hotel.

Yours sincerely,

Christina FELIX

I am unsure on value as my business booked and paid for the single nights stay.

The hotel was very well presented in the lobby and restaurant areas with nice subdued lighting and frosted glass styles. The receptionist was friendly and efficient. The room on the 7th floor was larger than average with a great view over the front of the hotel. The decor, furnishings and fittings were a little dated probably due a refurbishment in the next 2 years, but everything was clean. The room had a flat screen TV (which you need to tun on to get the free personalised WiFi code).

We arrived at the restaurant at a few minutes before 22:00 and were informed we had better order quickly as the kitchen was closing! For speed we decided to order a couple of sirloin steaks, which when they appeared they looked nice. How looks can be deceptive, as both steaks were full of gristle and fat. I would say only 30% of them were edible meat, really shocking. Upon complaining about this to the waiter, he said this was just "how they come". We asked to see the manager but made no progress and they were not willing to make any concessions on the food as apparently that is how steaks are in that part of France!!!!! Very disappointing.

Breakfast was a buffet. Well stocked continental selection and a good small selection of warm food.

I did not try the swimming pool or other leisure activities.

Would I stay there again? Not for business. If I was booking for leisure and got a great value rate, then I would as it is so close to the excellent Tram service.
