“Good hotel, excellent staff”
Reviewed 1 July 2012

This hotel is a little out of the way, but it was my favorite of the Hiltons I stayed at during a recent vacation to Europe (others were Florence Metropole, London Metropole, and Lyon). It offers great weekend rates when the EU stuff isn't in session, even during tourist season. We used Strasbourg as a home base for visits to Colmar and through Alsace.

Check-in was easy and quick, and the concierge walked us to our room. Our room was a park view on the 7th floor. The executive room came with chocolates, Evian and a couple of Time magazines. The room was well-decorated and looked modern. There were fireworks in the park the night we arrived (Saturday) and we had a great view.

We arrived during a weekend when the business center was closed and I had to scan a couple of documents for work. I asked at the front desk whether they could recommend a copy center near the hotel (the next day was Sunday, and lots of things in France are closed), and the friendly staff at the desk offered to scan them for me. It was done in a matter of seconds.

The lounge has rich wood paneling and is stocked with various magazines and newspapers. The weekend hours were good, the staff was attentive and the beverage and canape offerings were extensive. There were no computers available, but there is a section in the back with outlets to get work done. The lounge is on the ground floor and is pretty quiet; the bar across from the lounge was pretty lively. We arrived the night of one of the Euro semifinals and there were a bunch of people watching the game.

Overall great experience!

Has stayed a lot at this hotel over the years because of the Council of Europe being in Strasbourg, and it has improved a lot over the last few months with a totally new restaurant, bar and executive lounge - and not to forget new big flat screen TV's in the rooms. The lounge is now on the ground floor next to the bar and restaurant and is much better than before. Now it's both larger (over double size) and a lot more upscale in design. Also the service in the lounge has improved a lot - there is now a new girl who care a lot about the guests in the lounge and always goes out of her way to help with everything. All in all the hotel has just earned a new star in my book and even though it’s a little out of the city center - it is situated perfect for European institutions, which is only a short tram ride away.

I regularly stay in this hotel during the plenary sessions of the European Parliament. I find that it offers a much better value for money than other hotels in the area. Also, it is one of the closest to the LOW building of the Parliament, which makes it very convenient. It is possibly less convenient if you wish to visit the city centre, though there is a tram line at few steps from the Hotel that will bring you directly to the city centre.

Compared to other Hiltons across the world it is a bit less fresh and new. They recently renovated the restaurant and executive lounge areas, but the rest of the building would need a refurbishment to keep up with the high Hilton standards.

Room Tip: If they give you rooms on the first floor, watch out: once I got one which was right on top of the v...

Had the possibility to stay there over the weekend, it was very convenient as city centre is easy to reach with the tram.

Staff has been always very friendly, everybody from chambermaid to reception greeted always with a warm smile.

We very much enjoyed our stay at this Hilton. The room was clean and comfortable with a good view. We were quite close to convenient buses to the train station or trolley to the old town. The concierge was exceptionally helpful.

I am very disappointed in this Hotel, being the Hilton you conjure up this palatial place with fantastic accommodation great food and great service. Not!!!! Some areas were better than others. On arrival we were greeted well and the reception was exceptional and very helpful. Our room was okay. The bath, shower is conjoined and not that easy to use. I went to run a bath and was bent over trying to figure out how to do this when I ended up having an involuntary shower. Finally my husband came to the rescue and a bath was run. The bar area was also very good, at least the night we went there and the service good.
Breakfast. This is where the disappointment comes in. We were seated and then left to discover what and where you went to help yourself. We followed the leaders. Where we were sitting was extremely cold. They had a side door open for the staff to come and go as they were clearing outside tables and we asked if they could close it. The people next to us were quite relieved as well. Two minutes later it was open again and left that way. We then asked if we could shift which we did. The breakfast layout was rather unusual and took some working out. We started with cereal, fruit and yoghurt and fruit juice and it was just okay. Some of the fruit bowls were empty and didn't get refilled again until we no longer needed to have any. The hot food was luke warm an unappetising. The coffee pot that was put on your table also had luke warm coffee in it. Not nice.
Dinner. We thought tonight would be better. Different staff different attitude. We went in and were shown to a table, was given a menu and that was that. We ordered scotch and diet coke for hubby and coffee for me. When eventually the scotch arrived it was in a separate glass to the glass with ice in it and the coke came in a bottle which the girl opened and put some into the glass with the ice in. My husband then thought okay I must then tip the scotch into that which he did. Not good cause when I looked at the coke bottle we discovered it was normal coke not diet and as my husband is diabetic and normal coke isn't on his allowed to have list. I still hadn't received my coffee yet.
We made our decision about our meal and then waited. There were three staff on all semi standing about part of the time and even when we looked expectantly toward them it was like they couldn't see us. There were only at most five other couples in the restaurant that night. I still hadn't received my coffee.
Finally we had our meal orders taken and we asked where the coffee was and nobody knew about it. When I did get it it was luke warm. I drank it anyway.
The meal was okay. I ordered another coffee and asked for a hot one this time and yes it was hot when I got it but it was very bitter and the worst coffee I had had so far.I didn't drink it.
Breakfast this morning slightly better but no difference to the temperature of the hot? food at all.
We still have two nights here to go.

Room Tip: Our room was adequate for our needs. We had great view out of our window on the fifth floor up look...

We booked an Executive Room for the two nights.
As we lived in Strasbourg 10 years ago, we know the hotel well and I can report that the decor has not changed since then, locked into a strange time warp.
It seems that the brand has let the good standard of the hotel go and it looks very dated.
For example, the lobby lift buttons have their gilt worn down to the base metal support. There seems to be a general lack of investment.
You can find this same theme throughout the lobby.
The room, 715, was nice with a large king size bed. You also get a pen with laser pointer gimmick of very bad quality in your room upon arrival. Duty manager, please note that if you spending money on marketing gimmicks, please could you use quality gifts that I can show friends/colleagues and amaze them. It's is only a couple more euro.
The executive lounge was very disapointing. Very little choice of food snacks and an intermittent/ghost service. Staff would return at best every 40 minutes at peak hours to check if the food or drinks needed replenishing.
Food was left from afternoon tea at 4 pm to now 8.26 pm. I am not impressed by shrivelled carrots that have been sitting here since 11 am. Where have your food hygiene standards gone to ? You really need to up your game.
Even the lounge in Bucarest, Romania was much better that this !
