“wonderful simplicity”
Reviewed 26 August 2013

The idea is very simple: bread with a selection of toppings. The results, however, are not simple at all. It is clear someone took time to design the menu. We would strongly recommend the cheese with "plugs", the Brie and the roast beef. Apart from that, the atmosphere is nice, it is a nice place to seat in and enjoy an hour with good food.

“Excellence in an open sandwich.”
Reviewed 16 August 2013 via mobile

A beautiful evening with excellent service, food and drink. By 8.30pm the place was full inside and outside. Nothing is to much trouble for the staff, who spoke perfect English.
We agree with other comments about the salad. The cold or hot sandwiches are excellent.
We highly recommend this restaurant or is it a café?

“Its all about the atmosphere”
Reviewed 16 August 2013

Ate here as we'd had a good lunch earlier and wanted to contrast it with the Michelin places we were going to be trying later in our trip - loved this place just as much albeit in a different way.

The food is simple, which is to this places credit, tartines, lovely open topped sandwiches or posh cheese on toast. What really makes this place so so good is the fantastic atmosphere. The décor is excellent - done up like an old grocery store and lots of old pictures on the walls. Music was very French, which was perfect.

Service was fine. So glad we took the trouble to seek this place out and would definitely recommend. Glad we chose to sit inside rather than outside too as outside you miss the excellent interior and some of the atmosphere.

“Very cute and french place for a quick lunch or an easy dinner”
Reviewed 8 August 2013

Very cute place. If you sit outside, you are in the middle of a nice, narrow street. If you sit inside you will be in the middle of a perfect vintage atmosphere with enjoyable french music. The food is nothing extremely fancy, but really good. They have a lot of bread with toppings on top (delicious french cheese, for example) for around 6-9 euros. We advise also to take the salad, not expensive (around 3 euros) and breaks very well the taste of the cheese.

“Must see Strasbourg”
Reviewed 17 July 2013

L'Epicerie is a great café/restaurant in the heart of Strasbourg. The interior is unique and inspired by times gone by; 50's tin cans, post-war magazine-ads in the restrooms and a proper "epicerie"-counter. Here you will be seated along large tables together with other guests, which gives you that nice communal feeling. Or have a bite to eat by the old oven/table next to the counter. It aso has great outdoor seating in summer.

The food is amazing and varies according to the seasons. Try their tartines with a wide range of toppings. Their desserts vary according to the chefs inspiration. If you are lucky enough for them to have the chocolate-apricot cake when you are there you must try it with a glass of kir!

Great atmosphere also thanks to a perfect mix of unique interior and old school french music.
