We ate dinner here last night after booking (which is essential) by email. When seated we were given water, olives and some slices of salami which was delicious. We opted for the €20 formula which gave us entree, main and desert. We both had the goat's cheese salad which was a large serve and very tasty. We had the steak and lamb, both served with chips for our main. Again delicious. For dessert we had a creme brûlée and a type of chocolate mousse, again delicious. The wine and beer was very reasonably priced. The waiter (and owner) Eric was very friendly and made us feel welcome. His English was excellent. The restaurant has a really nice feel to it and would highly recommend visiting if you are in Bayonne. A tad uber €50 for 2.

1. The owners are true gems. So concerned about us being comfortable - they actually asked a smaller group of people to move to a different table (we were a large-ish group sitting at a small table initially). Very grateful to the diners who moved - but you have to admit that not every restaurant owner would go to such lengths to make sure everyone is happy (and yes, we did thank the generous folks who moved to accommodate us).
2. Atmosphere is wonderful, large groups, small groups, families, very joyful.
3. Food is amazing!!! If you are in doubt, ask the owners.

would definitely go again if I am fortunate enough to go to Bayonne

We visited on a rugby weekend (when Gloucester were playing Bayonne in the European Cup) and the table was booked for us by a French colleague, so the restaurant had no idea that a group of English rugby supporters would be arriving.
However, once this fact was apparent, our host, Eric, could not have been more welcoming, even though he is an avid supporter of Bayonne!
We all chose our meal from the set menu.....local Basque food and cooked to perfection. The veal casserole, prepared by Eric's wife, was outstanding, as was the wine (again mainly local, but very good quality and at a reasonable price). At the end of our meal, our host brought us all a complimentary shot of a traditional Basque drink......Pacharan. A little unusual but very pleasant!
We all enjoyed our evening and if we ever have the good fortune to visit Bayonne again, we would not hesitate to return to this lovely restaurant.

Good quality Basque speciality food and a very friendly owner who made us feel really welcome.
Try the set menus, good value for money and a taste of the Basque region.

Authentic and delicious Basque food. We were warmly welcomed by the chef who explained the menu in depth and with passion, while recommending a great Basque wine to accompany our meal.

Our six-year-daughter had a great time and felt very grown-up when the chef carefully asked her about the types of food she liked and took her to see the kitchen after the meal, all while the restaurant was packed with very happy diners.

Everyone says to try the gateau Basque but the café gourmand allows you to sample four desserts (including the delicious gateau Basque) along with a coffee.

Reservation definitely recommended. After we arrived, multiple couples and parties were turned away because every table had been reserved. Also, it was fun to see a wide age range of people enjoying their meals and one another. People really loved being here.
