“A wonderful start to our holiday”
Reviewed 31 March 2012

This was our first stop in the south of France, and one of the best. It's certainly not imposing from the street, but inside its a different world of light and luxury. Veronique was the perfect host and the location was fine for exploring Bordeaux - just a few minutes from the trams and the quay - or a 10 minute walk to the tourist centre, for the more energetic. A wonderful start to our holiday.

This is a beautiful hidden gem in Chartrons, not far from the centre of Bordeaux. An easy walk or use one of the rental bikes which are fantastic.
The house is hidden behind a huge door with a steep flight of steps to a central courtyard onto which most of the rooms look.
Veronique and Yann are great hosts and utterly helpful and kind. The rooms are comfortable and the breakfasts delicious. There is a local market on Qui des Chartrons which should not be missed with some fantastic wine and cheese. Veronique and Yann will not mind you coming back with some bread, wine and cheese. Loved every minute of it.

Room Tip: If you can get a room overlooking the courtyard it would be best. Ours was on the street but not noi...

I stayed 3 nights in October (1 in basalt & 2 in Sand room), both were totally gorgeous. The whole place is gorgeous as are the ever accommodating & helpful hosts Veronique & Yann. It smells good, the rooms are super clean, the towels and linen superb, very luxurious and worth the $$. I slept deeply and awoke to delicious breakfast in the atrium, croissant, jams, yoghurt, fruit, Tea & coffee including freshly squeezed organic orange juice. Chartrons is a great area to stay in Bordeaux and this B&B is well located, close to transport, restaurants, wine bars & boutiques. A very enjoyable stay and I would have like to extend but they were fully booked out.

Room Tip: Of the two rooms I did prefer the Sand Room as the windows in Basalt open out into the atrium and it...

I reserved via email with the owner, Madame Veronique.
We arrived around 1pm. Luckily I read some reviews and asked Veronique to reserve a parking space for our car or ti would have been a nightmare find one single park space around.
The B&B is in Quai des Chartrons a bohemien area, not exactly in the heart of the city, but at 10-15 minutes walk from Place de la Bourse. The B&B is located in a narrow street very dreary. The day we arrived even a mattress was thrown away laying on a car.
The structure itself, is the typical building made of blonde stone from Acquitaine. there is a small wooden door and on the left an automatic gate where is the parking space.
when you get inside, you walk through a narrow corridor all in blondie stone, and after some stairs, you arrive in the common area of the B&B. The atmosphere is cozy and familiar. A beautiful living room with sofa and armchairs, a lot of books, a fireplace, a huge kitchen with a long table for breakfast, and a beautiful verandah with some chairs where you can sometimes have breakfast enjoying the fabolous light. Upstairs there are the rooms. We were in the attic room, ont he thirs floor. After 2 staircases in stone, the last staircase, in wood, with narrow stairs drives you to the attic room. It may be very uncomfortable, but we were prepared.. and got only one little suitcase each.
The room is very small.. and Veronique was still preparing the room at the moment we arrived, but in any case she let us leave our stuff and use the toilet.
the room has a beautiful view on the roofs, has a mountain refuge feeling, and has a little bathroom directly connected to the room without even a small door.
But we spent only one day so it was ok.
What was very disappointing is that there is cat int he B&B which is always around. when we arrived, Veronique was still cleaning the room, and he jumped inside from a window.
At night, when we came back from the dinner, the cat started miaoving and pushing and scratching our door trying to get in..
Breakfast was good, served in the kitchen. veyr basic but with all the necessary. coffee, tea, yougurt, almonds, croissant, bread and jam...
My boyfriend started sneezing inside the room and also in the living room, and we realized it was due to the cat. So i paied more attention and actually I noticed some cat hair here and there in the room and outside. I think this place has a good potential, but needs to work on important details like this. The presence of a cat should be specified cause not everybody like them.
on the other hand, a little more attention to the hygiene and a strict prohibition to the cat to enter inside the rooms (which is not currently respected) would definitely help this place to raise its scores. The rooms were a little dusty and some cat hair was around. Also in our bathroom the carpet was dirty and had a big spot...the overall feeling was that it wasn't very clean....
the place is full of atmosphere, but needs to improve on these basics necessarily....

This is a very charming bed and breakfast, with luxury touches and a great location.
The owners are exceptionally friendly and made all efforts to help with directions and tips in English.
Breakfast is very good and so is sleep quality. You can easily walk to the center of Boredeaux but public transport is great and you have a tram station few minutes away.
The room was nice and clean - just watch out for the cat in case he wants to squeeze in when you open the door.
All in all, I would definitely recommend it and I would ceartainly come back.

We spent three nights and very much enjoyed our stay at Ecolodge. Veronique and her son were particularly friendly with plenty of helpful advice. Our room was large and comfortable with a spacious well equiped ensuite. The b & b was eclectically furnished, quiet and very warm and comfortable. It is a short walk to the river, trams, restaurants, interesting shops and perhaps ten minutes walk into the heart of Bordeaux. We have no hesitation in recommending Ecolodge.
