Quality Hotel Bordeaux Centre
Ranked #11 of 174 Hotels in Bordeaux

Reviewed 14 September 2009

Quality Hotel St Catherine is 150 metres/yards in from the edge of the pedestrianised area so even with 2 weeks of luggage and fishing rod cases and tackle bag it was very easy for 2 50/60 yrs olds to get to from our drop off point.
The receptionsts are all helpful and English speaking and the access great. The new bar and coffee lounge is a very welcome added amenity.
Breakfast is served over a long period and does everything from crisp bacon, through 6 cheeses, hams, 10 cereals, fresh fruits and juices 8 different coffees and many teas in a 1st floor elegant dining room ovelooking the gentle street sounds of Bordeaux.
EVERYTHING is near this hotel. The rooms are fine and always clean with enough towels though if there are a large party/group in then hot water can be a problem between 1900-2000hrs due to demand.
There is a choice of 100 restaurants/bistro.cafes within 5-10 mins walk and you are 3 mins from Tram central at Place de Quinconce, where about 4 euros gets you an all day tram ticket that will get you any where you want and prob some places you didn't!.

This is not a luxury hotel , but if adequate means that its got everything you need including two computer terminals with printers on free internet access then this is as adequate as it gets. Highly recommended if like my wife and I you are not there to sit in your room.

This hotel was the final stop in a two-week long tour from Montpellier to Bordeaux. We looked for a hotel to stay one night that was in the city centre. Having previously visited Bordeaux, almost 20 years ago, and stayed at this hotel we decided to return – in part based on its position on Tripadvisor. It’s said that you should leave the past alone – this was advice I wish we had heeded. The hotel quite literally had not changed since our last stay - the same wicker furniture, the same reception area and the same paintwork. The hotel is in the centre of the pedestrianised area of Bordeaux which makes it almost impossible to reach by car. Our original plan had been to drive to the hotel, leave our luggage then drop off our hire car and return to the hotel. After a couple of failed attempts at reaching the hotel we decided to return the car first and then get a taxi to the hotel from the rail station – thinking that a taxi could return us closer to the hotel than my efforts. This wasn’t a successful strategy as we still had to walk with our luggage a good couple of hundred metres to the hotel after being dropped off by the taxi. This perhaps didn’t put us in the right frame of mind for dealing with any problems when checking in – which there were. Firstly we were given a key to a room that was still being cleaned when we arrived at the door. The next room we were given was at the end of a corridor in a corner with a window that looked onto a brick wall and the room was barely the size of a bathroom in most decent hotels. Our third room was slightly better, definitely bigger, but was desperately in need of renovation. The hotel’s main advantage is its proximity to the city centre – but this is also one of its problems as the area is pedestrianised. The hotel does not have a restaurant but as there are many places to eat close by this is not a problem. There is a breakfast room on the first floor which provides the standard buffet breakfast. In common with the other hotels we stayed at during our holiday the breakfast was a disappointment – particularly the coffee which was dispensed from a vending machine. We have made these comments to the hotel and were quite surprised to receive on our return home a letter from the hotel addressing our concerns. This is the first time we have had any feedback on our comments by a hotel. The hotel is in need of major renovation and takes advantage of playing on it location but does not draw attention to the difficulties in reaching the hotel. Finally, this hotel has made us more wary of reviews of hotels on websites as our experience at this hotel differs drastically from the experiences of others!

We shared a taxi from the airport and found the location ideal for touring the town and eating out as there is a wide variety of good value and excellent quality restaurants close by.
We concur with the comments in other reviews regarding decor and friendly staff and as one of our party suggested the savings in accommodation are better spent on eating out.
The Place du Parlement is great for Brunch or breakfast should you prefer not to take advantage of the hotel's facilities.
In all clean and comfortable.

Great location for a city break. Not ideal if travelling by car as public car park is pricey and a bit of a walk with luggage. Very attractive from outside and very centrally located. Our room was on the third floor and was very dated and tired although clean with all facilities that we needed.

Quality Hotel St. Catherine is located in a great location. It is in the center of town and within easy walk to other point of interests. The hotel is very nice and the room is considered a good size and quiet. The bed is comfortable and room is clean. It is a great value hotel in Bordeaux. We would definitely stay here again if we return to Bordeaux.

Stayed for two nights on a trip to watch my football team. Perfect location, within walking distance of all the main attractions in the city (cathedral, theatre, river front, etcl) and right next to the main (pedestrianised) shopping street on one side and 'old' Bordeaux on the other with its pretty squares offering cafes and restaurants.
Double room I shared with my friend was adequate, looking out over the pedestrianised street below. Staff were friendly and extremely helpful. We did not try the restaurant or bar; breakfast was not included so we ate in a cafe in a square round the corner instead.
Probably not a great location if you have a car; car use in the area around the hotel is restricted by permit.
Perfect place to use as a base for sight-seeing/shopping/going out, representing exceptional value for money.

Not a long walk to anywhere in Bordeux from this hotel. Rooms were quite worn and very much in need of the renovation which was ongoing in the reception area. Dead matress, ugly and a sometimes a bit smellly bathroom and toilet. Room was quite spacios but you could barely see the sky from the window in to the inner court. Nothing to complain about the cleanlines and breakfast was decent but you'll probably be better of in cafeterias.
