“Fall in love with caneles!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 February 2010

This shop sells the most wonderful caneles, a regional treat found in Bordeaux. This pastry is basically a tiny cake (the largest is the size of a tall shot glass) completely encrusted with a carmelized sugar-cinnamon mixture. The cinnamon is so intense it's almost spicy, and the sugar gives it a satisfying crunch with each bite. The only drawback to trying this delicacy is that you will fall in love with them, and they are tough to find even in Paris, let alone the United States. My search for local canele continues.

Baillardran makes them in various sizes and they're available one at a time or in multiples in gift boxes and such. It's located on a convenient corner with a few tables inside in case you decide to take a rest to enjoy your pastries. C'est fantastique!
