“OK For a Short Break”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

As everybody says, this hotel is in an excellent location on the edge of the old town, the airport bus stop is within a stones throw, the staff are friendly and helpful, the breakfast is simple, fresh and typically continental and the rooms are small yet generally clean and comfortable albeit with a few wee glitches.

We spent 3 nights there last weekend and it generally met our needs. Not a hotel for spending more than the necessary time in, and if you are a light sleeper the buzz from the lively street below plus the bin lorries in the middle of the night and the putting in then placing out of the tables and chairs in the cafes will give you something to think about. It didn't bother me for the first 2 nights but drove me nuts on the last night.

No real complaints as we knew more or less what we were buying into, but if we returned to the lovely city of Bordeaux, we would probably chose somewhere with more space, comfort and tranquility.

Room Tip: If they exist, rooms at the back would be much quieter, but it is also nice to look onto the activit...

We booked last minute, got a pretty good deal. Rooms were clean and fairly spacious. We were in one of their family rooms which are under the roof.
It can be quite hot during summer but they have air conditioning. Only downside were the tiles in the shower which can be quite slippery especially for kids. Didn't try the breakfast. Other slight downside it that there is no car park in the hotel and no space to drop the bag in front of hotel. Buy they have a deal with a nearby covered car park for 10 euro a night if my memory serves right. Would come back next time in Bordeaux.

The hotel has two things going for it, the location and the friendly staff. However, even these are limited as, with the central location goes being on a very busy street and if you don't pay the extra for a double glazed room you will never sleep. The staff were very nice, but sketchy in their knowledge. One guy didn't know where the opera was (the Grand Theatre is one of the major attractions in Bordeaux, so strange) and when we were leaving for the station we asked if there was a difference in price between taking a cab from the rank opposite the hotel or booking. We were told no. The cab man told us it was 8 euros fee to book !

So those were the good bits. Now for the rest. The photos make the place look far better than it is. The rooms, even with an upgrade are tiny and the bathroom and shower minuet. Of the three days we stayed there was no hot water in the morning on two. We had to wait until midday. We were told this was due to works, but there was no thought to post a notice by way of explanation. The decor is tired and there was a funny smell in the lift vestibule. The lift can just about take two people as long as you haven't had a good lunch !

If you pay more for a double glazed room it isn't the end of it as the AC is a bit aggressive and noisy...so not good either.

We declined breakfast and had something I suspect which was far superior from the Grand Cafe round the corner.

The Wifi worked for the first day or so and then something weird happened and that was that. Still there were free copies of Le Figaro and Le Sud Ouest. Difficult is you don't read French.

The hotel didn't ruin our trip as Bordeaux is an amazing place where we had fun and enjoyed the place greatly, but our tip is pay a little more (mind you this place wasn't cheap) and stay somewhere nicer.

Room Tip: Don't take an "eco" room as it isn't double glazed and ask for a room facing the p...

hello,

Following your stay in our hotel, we after all thank you to have left a comment about us, even if it is not the good comment we are generally expected.

About what you say we would like to add more for the next Customer who would be interested in coming and stay in hotel Cœur de City Clemenceau.

Concerning the taxi first, we learn something with you because we do not knew it was a difference between the booked one and the taxi station in front of the hotel. there are 400 taxis in Bordeaux, we work with some of them, the others may say what they want.

About the problem of water you and all the customers had during the same stay, it was a technical problem that had not been repairable in one day but 4 and we sincerely apologies about that, the problem is now solved and everybody can have a warm shower at any time, and about the fact that we did not mentionned it everywhere in the hotel seems correct to us, all the customers already noticed it and all cam to see us and have explanation, no need for us to communicate on a bad news anymore.

About the breakfast, you clearly wrote that you declined it but also clearly confirm that it was better out, your opinion.

After that, our building is a 18 centuries one, quite small in and not easy to refund as you can think, that is also why the lift is tiny and the double glazed can not be add in all the room because the building is in the Unesco Top, but, booking rooms on website, you will also see 2 rooms categories, economical and comfort explaining the differenec is based on it.

We sincerely hope this experiment will not stop you coming back in the beautiful city of Bordeaux, surely not coming back to us, but if you want to retry, you know where to find us.

Sincerely,

Aurélie,

My husband and I were in Bordeaux for a few days and we stayed in Coeur de City hotel. The location is really great - right in the city centre. The staff speak very good English and were very friendly and helpful. We arrived a few hours earlier than the check-in time and the staff were happy for us to leave the luggage at the reception until the room was cleaned and ready. The same was offered to us on checking out.
The room was not spacious and we did not have the view as we only had two big skylights (the room on the 4th floor) but it was pleasant and good value for the money - regularly cleaned, towels changed every day and a very comfortable bed. We had free Wi-Fi, coffee and tea making facilities in the room too. The bathroom, although small, was very bright and clean.
Breakfast, 9 euros per person, was tasty (excellent coffee and fresh grapefruit juice) and was conveniently served on the 4th floor where our room was.
The bus stops are very close to the hotel, so we used the city bus, Line 1, to get from and to the airport (very convenient - takes about 45 minutes and costs 1,40 euros per person one way.)
The hotel is very small and has got a lift that can accommodate two people only. The staircase is a bit narrow (good exercise if you are on the top floor :-) ) but all in all we would warmly recommend the hotel if you wanted to stay in the city centre in clean, pleasant and affordable accommodation.

In the middle of the city - shops, restaurants and all the sights in a walking distance! From the airport you get very close to the hotel with line 1 which leaves in the front of airport. Staff is friendly and they advice you in English. Breakfast if ok (bread, buns, cheese, sliced meat, jam, milk, tea, coffee, juice, cereals, yoghurt) and that's in line with the hotel's class. If you're biggish and/or you do not like narrow corridors, small lift and tight shower room then you shall skip this hotel. But all that was ok for us. I appreciated that shower was modern and gave enough warm water. Also, it didn't leak water to the rest of the bathroom. There's water kettle and some tea bags provided. And big plus were good beds! In spring time we were not disturbed by the noise from the street or restaurants in the 2nd floor. Bathroom was a bit chilly but heating in the room worked according to thermostat. We were very pleased with our stay in this hotel!

Room Tip: 208 corner room had view into two directions (another window was in the bathroom).

We were just in Bordeaux en route to Paris CDG so a very quick one night stay (sadly!). Instead of choosing a hotel close to the station for our very early train the following day, I opted for Coeur de City in the heart of things and am very glad I did. Within walking distance to a lot of shops, bars and restaurants, it's still pretty quiet at night.

Rooms are pretty roomy with a lot of space to store bags etc... and the bathroom was of a decent size and well appointed.

GREAT value for money - I'd stay here again.

Room Tip: A room on a higher floor might be useful if you want to avoid as much street noise as possible.
