“Great rooftop”
Reviewed 28 July 2014

Stayed one night. Interesting hotel. Fun. Great rooftop with view of Bordeaux where you can have dinner or just drinks. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Access is not very easy as in the pedestrian part of Bordeaux. Just need a pool on the roof !

My husband and I stayed at Mama Shelter Bordeaux for 4 nights in end of June and we LOVED it. The hotel as a whole is just fun, playful and quirky - quite different to many hotels/restaurant we have experienced in France. The staff - from reception, through to the bar and the restaurant are all super friendly and helpful. In terms of the rooms, we got the double room and it was very comfortable and had good amount of space for 2. The bathroom was very clean and spacious as well. The bed and pillows were also excellent (it really did feel like we were sleeping in our own bed!). But the other thing we loved about Mama Shelter is the restaurant. We had dinner there the first night we arrived and that was one of the best contemporary French meals we've had for the trip! Last but not least, for our last night in Bordeaux we headed up to its rooftop bar (which was really chill with a great view of the Bordeaux skyline) and then the bar downstairs and wow - their cocktails are just amazing!! The two bartenders (Andrei and one other guy whom we forgotten the name, sorry) made us some fantastic (and potent) concoctions. We had a great time chatting with the bartenders and it turned out to be a epic night! Staying at Mama Shelter has really made our Bordeaux experience memorable, and we would go back to stay there in a heartbeat next time we are in town.

Stayed one night, room fine

We drank cocktails at the bar, could do with more alcohol in for the price, but nice setting/ music

Ate at pizzeria, service hit and miss at start but got better

Breakfast was disappointing, 45 minute wait for bacon because the chef was in 'a bad mood'

Thankfully was given late check out

Would stay again

On seeing the other reviews I was intrigued by this hotel - and I wasn't disappointed. A very quirky boutique hotel in a great area! Very near shopping, restaurants, and the city center. Funny masks await you in your room, and the hotel features a cool rooftop bar looking out over the city, which I loved! went down to the bar one night which was also great - tasty cocktails and (randomly) bar tenders dressed 'planet of the apes' style - loved this hotel, would definitely stay here again!

Great to see such a place in Bordeaux. Reminds me of Shoreditch house in London ( minus the pool). Great view of Bordeaux and some of its monuments. The rooftop is the perfect place to hang out even if you don t stay in the hotel. Shame they only serve wine and don t do cocktails on the terrace. I have to say that the staff is very friendly.

for my first time in this great city, Bordeaux, I chose to stay at Mama Shelter, advised by a local friend. I arrived late, and the restaurant and bar were booming. What do you think of when you arrive in Bordeaux, have a glass of this prestigious wine...that's what I did..at the bar..alone..but entertained by the waiters!!!
The location is great, the staff, is incredibly kind, helpful, nice. The iMac as a TV was great and perfect including FREE movies and FREE wi-fi working very well.
There is NO room service, but you go downstairs, get a coffee or a glass of wine, and take it back to our room;it is easy and cool.
I had a "big" room on the 5th floor. Very nice. I am not anymore a freak of Philippe Starck, because it is often all the time the same, but the space allowed to everything needed was greatly organized. I really loved this hotel, this city, and the wine......Wow, i will be back. I DO recommend Mama Shelter@Bordeaux

Room Tip: book the biggest room you can, and on a high floor. Starck's hotel room are usually tiny

Unreserved recommendation for this hotel for value and uniqueness. Bordeaux is a maze of one way street so be prepared to get lost .. even the SATNAV could not cope with the one-ways.
The bar i the reception area is very lively in the evening .. the rooms are basic but very comfortable ; as I say great value for a city centre.
The staff .. excellent .. very helpful at all stage; our friends forget some stuff and star could not be more helpful.
