We met up with friends for a 3-day private group tour for four. Xavier, our excellent guide, was very well informed and gave a very clear explanation of the different styles of wine and the intricate classification system of the various Bordeaux appellations. The tour included visits to eight château, covering most of the Bordeaux region – left and right bank. Each château gave us a tour of the vineyard and winery, explaining their production methods and culminating in a tasting.
On our arrival in Bordeaux, Xavier picked us up and took us through the Médoc to the delightful Chateau Ormes de Pez in Saint-Estephe where we stayed overnight after a swim in the pool, wine on the terrace and a gourmet dinner.
The following day, Xavier took us on a tour of the Médoc. The highlight was the Château Lynch Bages wine school, followed by lunch on the estate, and visits to Château Gruaud Larose and Château du Tertre – all Grands Crus Classés producers. By the end of the day we were well versed in the distinctive styles of the different terroirs within the Medoc.
For the rest of our visit we stayed in the Hôtel De Seze in the centre of Bordeaux – currently ranked 9th out of 175 on Trip Advisor. We had the evenings free to explore Bordeaux and try out Xavier’s excellent restaurant recommendations.
The next day our education continued on the right bank in Saint-Emilion with visits to Château de Ferrand (Grand Cru classé) and Château Canon (Premier Grand Cru Classé), then on to Pomerol to Château Petit Village. We had time to explore the town of Saint-Emilion before meeting up with Xavier for lunch at a delightful restaurant off the main tourist track and frequented by locals.
Our final day was a mainly white day. Xavier took us to Château Larrivet Haut Brion in Pessac-Léognan, lunch in the village of Sauternes, the gardens of Château Yquem, and to Château Suduiraut – also in Sauternes.
We came back to the UK by car with a fair number of bottles which we will be able to enjoy and re-live our very enjoyable visit to Bordeaux.

My wife and I spent a day each in Graves/Sauternes, left and right banks. Maryse, our guide, knew most of the vinyards, the best restaurants and organized three memorable days for us in June 2014. We visited Ch Mouton-Rothschild, Ch Palmer and many other highly-rated vineyards.Highly recommend.

Highly recommend this company. Xavier, owner and guide, took our group of three on a private tour of a St. Emilion vineyard. and to the medieval town for lunch. The vineyard was a Grand Cru Clase and the lunch was at a small retaurant off the beaten track. Next time, we will tour the Medoc region with this same company.

I left Bordeaux yesterday after a truly exceptional two day wine tour with Xavier. It was all so easy and well planned, I had only to sit back and enjoy the scenery, the wine (of course) and Xavier's boundless knowledge of the region. He picked some great Chateaus for tasting, including Pontet Canet, which is a personal favorite, and some wonderful local restaurants for lunch. And, for me, Xavier's punctuality was an added bonus and not something I see very often, regardless of the context. I enthusiastically recommend 33 Tour to anyone visiting Bordeaux.

We did a three day tour with 33 Tour and it was the absolute highlight of our France vacation. Xavier and Ysabel provide an exceptional level of service, experience and knowledge. If you love wine and want to learn more or just want to enjoy the scenery and wonderful food, 33 Tour is for you. We were a bit reluctant to book a tour in another country but Ysabel was always very responsive and we felt quite secure in all the arrangements. She even made special accommodations for food allergies.

We go to Napa and Sonoma every year and decided we would try the Bordeaux wine country. Unlike California where you can drive up unannounced to most wineries and just walk in for a tasting, in Bordeaux most grand crus are not really open to the public. So you need an experienced guide with the right connections to arrange for tours and tastings. And at most of the grand crus it is not possible to buy their wine on-site or join a wine club. Knowing we were interested in reds and possibly buying some wine and that we were wine club members in California, 33 Tour was able to customize our tour.

Xavier picked us up at the train station and then drove us (in a comfortable van) to Medoc (left bank) to help us understand the terroir of the region. Then we stayed at and enjoyed a private gourmet dinner at Chateau Ormes de Pez, where we did a vertical tasting of their various vintages. Our chef (Gilles) explained how the weather and other events affected each wine he served us. We have enjoyed many good restaurants in Napa (even the CIA) but this was just an incredible gourmet experience.

Next day was grand cru Lynch-Bages where we had a private tour and “wine school” where we were able to make our own personal red blends of the vintage then being bottled. Of course, a great outdoor lunch followed and several other tours in Medoc including Chateau du Tetre, where we could buy some wine.

We stayed La Maison de Bordeaux where somehow 33 Tour was able to get us an upgrade to a big room with an outdoor terrace.

Day two Xavier took us to St. Emilion, a charming medieval town on a hill on the right bank. While there we had a private tour and tasting at Chateau Fonplegade, which is owned by Americans who also have wineries in Napa. We belong to several Napa/Sonoma wine clubs but thought that it would not be possible for us to buy wine in France due to the high shipping cost. Fonplegade is one of the very few Chateaux that do have a wine club, which we joined. And since they ship their French wine from California, our case of wine arrived at our home in Colorado the day after we returned. This was followed by a gourmet lunch (of course).

Day three we did a private tour and tasting at grand cru premier Chateau Haut-Brion in Pessac. When you taste a wine like this you understand why critics rave about French wine. After a wonderful lunch we headed to Sauterne to taste some whites and the reds at Chateau du Ferrand, owned by the family of Baron Bich (of Bic pen fame).

During the entire three days, Xavier was always friendly, knowledgeable and (important to us based on bad experiences traveling elsewhere) a careful driver.

We highly recommend 33 Tour!
