“Grand dame of Bordeaux!”
Reviewed 16 June 2014

Stayed at the Grand Bordeaux hotel for 4 nights. Booked with Leading Hotels program and received a complimentary room upgrade with a fantastic view of the theater across the street. Room was spacious and beautifully decorated with a king bed and in keeping with a high end 5 star property. Slept like a baby. Housekeeping is multiple times a day. I would recommend that you keep a do not disturb sign on your door if you are napping in between wine tastings or generally want privacy during the day.

My package also included breakfast daily. Buffet with a very nice selection of hot and cold food including smoked salmon, charcuterie, cheese. High quality food that was also nicely presented.
Had a spa treatment but was disappointed to find that use of the pool was not included in the room rate. Typically access to the pool is included in the room rate of a 5 star establishment. The spa itself was top notch with roman type pool and a nice lounge area.

Do go to the rooftop terrace for sunset even if you are not staying at the hotel. The views are incredible esp at sunset. There is also a hot tub on the rooftop terrace.

For tours, I went directly to the tourism office to book winery tours which is conveniently almost across the street from the hotel since I was traveling on my own. Generally found service to be professional but not particularly friendly.

Room Tip: Try booking through Amex platinum or Leaders program to get complimentary upgrade and breakfast.

After a horrible day of surviving the June 13, 2014, train service strike on a trip from Paris to Bordeaux we were ready for some luxury.

The Grand provided just what we needed starting with a beautiful city view balcony room overlooking the Opera. The very expensive Moscow Mules served in the bar even made a more mellow transition enjoyable.

The property is old world classic even down to the pillowed wall fabrics in the rooms. We felt we had gone back to the 17th century except the chamber pots were missing. What was present was a very efficient air conditioner on the eighty plus degree day in Southern France.

As other reviewers have pointed out this property is not for the handicapped. There are stairs where you don't expect stairs and no elevators in those areas to compensate. Even our balcony required stair climbing to get to the nice sitting area. The wife does not do stairs well, but we managed and the staff went out of their way to assist to even offering her the freight elevator at one point. We were aware of the situation prior to booking and knew what to expect. She is a trooper.

We managed and I don't think there is a fix for the situation other than starting all over again and that would just not be right.

We did not eat in signature Michelin Star restaurant because it was "temporarily" closed. We did have a €40.00 breakfast of coffee, small pastry and orange juice.

If you are on a budget the Grand might not be your cup of tea. It is a nice splurge.

My family and I stayed at the grand for two nights. We had adjoining suites for this family with two small children. Boy! Were they prepared for our kiddos. There were little presents on the beds for my 18 month old and five year old grandsons. Big hit! Also, there was a pint size robe and sleepers for the five year old! His favorite part of the stay! The staff was wonderful. Our rooms were immaculate and beautifully appointed. The beds were comfortable. Had a little trouble with room service but it was worked out. This is a beautiful hotel and they work hard to make your stay excellent.

This is one of those hotels, where they make you feel good. The hotel is made in old style and is like the 'Grand Lady of the town'. Rooms are nice and like being on a castle. The spa is good and the staff is great and smiling.

The location is superb! We were very lucky with the weather and to be sitting on the terrace restaurant with a glass of wine or champagne is just great. Also don't miss the rooftop terries bar, great drinks and food.

Great breakfast with every thing you need. The french way with small specialities and not with every day products.

Pricy? Yes. Worth it? Yes.

just to clarify we went there only for drinks and out of curiosity, to see the building. Amazing location just opposite the Opera house, with a lovely terrace as well as a stylish lounge area. Next time we would definitely consider staying there even though price points are quite high

My husband and I chose Bordeaux for a romantic weekend. The hotel has been sympathetically renovated, is in the perfect location and the entire town is within walking distance. The hotel marries old world style and elegance with all modern conveniences however, people need to remember this is Europe and rooms tend to be smaller than American hotels. The staff are multi- lingual and extremely helpful ensuring you can make the most of your stay. Breakfast is substantial, and the front terrace is a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Don't forget to have steak and frites at the restaurant opposite the hotel. You can book this hotel with confidence.

I am a tour guide in Bordeaux and I pick up clients from dozens of different hotels. I have been to all of the major hotels in the area and I cannot believe this hotel is not #1. Something is definitely suspicious in TripAdvisor land... For one thing, this hotel's location is unbeatable. It is located in Bordeaux's main square where Romans settles in the 1st and 2nd centuries! With no exception all of my clients are blown away by the service and the amenities in this hotel. Stay here and you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Grand Theatre
