“Great location, friendly staff, well decorated but dark rooms”
Reviewed 14 October 2009

Our 3 night stay at the Regent was lovely. The entire staff was very friendly and extremely accomodating. There were many restaurants just a block or so away from the hotel. The concierge will be happy to recommend a favorite according to your personal tastes and budget.
However, the rooms were dark even with all the lights turned on. The bathrooms were large (separate toilet) and a large tub.

My wife and I spent at a corner deluxe room situated in front of the Grand theatre of this gorgeous & cleanly hotel for seven nights from check in on the day of 26th June to checking out on 4th July . We took a promotion rate, when making reservation, which can be obtained about 38% less from the list price of 590 euro per night. It was enable earlier booking before two months thru website of the hotel. The hotel is really good just opened September 2008. The breakfast can be enjoyed from a plenty of fine foods which is buffet though the price of 30 euro per person seems to be little bit expensive. I do not recommend to took window side table because you may easily get suntan during breakfast time. Our room is very spacious with adequate approach from the door and but we can enjoy separated shower room ,toilet, washing basin and bath tab respectively not also having good view from the bath tab. From the window, full view of the grand theatre and a quite unique biulding with the shape of triangle which is shared by wine unions of bordeaux can be enjoyed too. We can get back the hotel frequently in every day if wishing to take rest ie. toilet, put goods, changing clothes and etc. which can be enable from the situation placed really city centre. Hotel staff is well trained especially concierge who booked good seats for us for theatregoing of a balletat performed at the historical Grand theatre.

This is a really good hotel ideally located opposite the Grand Theatre. It is, however, extremely expensive! Rooms and public areas are all very well appointed, and the food in the Brasserie is very good, and compared to the rest of the hotel prices pretty reasonable. Breakfast is over priced at Eu30 per person and fairly average.

What really makes this hotel is the friendliness and helpfulness of the Concierge team, and the restaurant staff, who go out of their way to be helpful and are unfailingly polite. In contrast the downside to the hotel is the attitude and manners of many of the guests, unfortunately and without fail, the English speaking ones. Undoubtedly wealthy many confirmed the old saying that money buys neither class nor manners, and we saw many examples of these people behaving appallingly rudely to the staff, whom they treated like servants, as well as the usual Britsh disease of trying to eat so much from the breakfast buffet so as to avoid having to buy lunch! Unsurprisingly, and as usual, the French, German and other European guests seemed to know how to behave in a good quality hotel.

The Regent is "The Plaza" of Bordeaux, the most central and luxe hotel in town. The rooms can be small, and the bathroom situation is a tad odd: the toilet is two doors removed from the sinks and tub/shower. Also, our room service was uneven: inedible salt-laden soup and so-so pasta. The public spaces are an unfortunate mix of classical and modern, and are without air-conditioning creating a humid atmosphere in the summer. The location and service were the stars, otherwise this place is a little big and odd. Good for a one-night stay before catching a plane.

My husband and I took a train from Paris to Bordeaux and thought that the hotel looked beautiful when we arrived. The location is amazing. Right on the main square across from the Grand Theater and at the heart of the of the beautiful historic district - great for walking .
We were given a room on the fourth floor which I think was an upgrade It was very french and pretty - ornate fabrics and lots of character. As other reviewers have commented, my only complaint was the darkness, lack of natural light., The low ceilings in our room made it seem even darker , not sure if this was due to our location on the top floor - angled under the roof top.l Our room had a sliding door to a small, very rustic balcony that overlooked the main square. The view was amazing and this made up for the roughness of the balcony- wood shabby and a rickety steep staircase to get to it. but it really was great to be able to sit out there on the top of the hotel and look out at The Grand Theatre and a great view!.
The bed was extremely comfortable and the sheets a nice high thread count. The bathroom was spacious and had nice toiletries. The public areas of the hotel. are quite beautiful and the concierge, we dealt with (many ) were very professional and helpful. I will note though that I always had to call them back to get the information I had requested. They would book a restaurant for example but forget to call us and let us know. This happened on every request but as I said they were very happy to help and very kind just not great on the follow-thru.
We did not eat breakfast here as it was pricey and generally we are happy to get a croissant and cafe on the street. Overall a lovely hotel in a beautiful city.

We where touring France and stayed just one night here. It was by far the best hotel we stayed in, Hotel du Palais, you could learn a great deal! the service was faultless and appropriate ,the building beatifully restored the bedrooms top notch. I cant think of one thing to fault at all .Well done to the staff.
We ate in the hotel for lunch dinner and breakfast and all meals where good. the breakfast was the best we had on our three week holiday. Our only regret is that we couldnt stay longer!
The best however where the beds.,pure luxuary .as one of our children said its like sleeping in a big marshmellow.

I have been in this hotel for a few days in July 2009.
Booked thorugh a website a superior room (basic).
When arrived i saw the room that was exceptionally small and with no light from outside, and asked to upgrade to a deluxe room.
This one was just slightly bigger, and totally without light from the outside, even if it had 3 windows overall.
Toilet is in a separate cabinet from main bathroom, which is actually a bit unconvenient.
The position is perfect for anything. Just around the corner the tourist office organizes city tours with audio guides. Very interesting.
Best part of the city is the old area surronding Place De La Comedie, and the river banks, where are a lot of small bars and restaurants.
On sunday here you will also see the local market. Perfect to buy Bordeaux wines, at convenient prices.
