“Good food for an honest price”
Reviewed 23 July 2014

3 course meal for 22 eur , I had the crabmeat - shrimp salad for starter , maincourse the merlu basque and the chocolate dessert , do not forget to order wine, prices here are very reasonable and wines are good.( if you order just a starter and a main course you could end up more expensive than choosing a full menu which is totally a la carte , no set menus at all.)

“Lost its soul?”
Reviewed 27 June 2014

We visited this place a few years ago and it has changed from a local restaurant serving local Basque dishes to catering for the tourist trade in a big way.
It seems more commercially successful judging by the numbers filling the restaurant but the food is now more "international". I cannot blame anyone for being successful. We all have to earn a living and the food is not at all bad; in fact the hake and sole that we ate were good
It is just a shame that authenticity has been sacrificed for popular appeal.

“Really good local food at a good prices”
Reviewed 26 February 2014

Called in one very rainy night in December when we were on our way back from Spain to the UK. Not smart but very warm and frienddly. Really tasty local food and a very reasonable price. Nice house red wine, good service and great atmosphere...loved it. Would certainly go back if we stay in Biarritz.

“Horribly disappointing. Blase attitude. A Basque Resto that can't make axoa!!”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Having read several glowing reviews of this restaurant, we decided to try it on our recent visit to Birritz (a must go city). The resto was crowded: a good sign. From there everything went downhill. I had the set menu and chose the axoa as my main course. I've had this before in other places and I was really looking forward to it again. The axoa (which is a stew of tomatoes, onions, Basque spices - mainly espilette) I've had have been divine and it is usually an inviting red-brown colour with a zesty taste. Here the axoa was served in a small shallow baking dish and the color was an insipid pink. A dead giveaway. The ground/chopped veal was just past the pink stage and the whole mess was tasteless, devoid of life and bite, and utterly forgettable. I left everything after a couple of bites: I just couldn't eat it. The maitre d's attitude was: "Oh, too bad!" To paraphrase Woody Allen: the food was bad and the portions were small. Don't go. Save your money and try the pizza place place just up the main road: the pizzas from a wood fired oven are delicious and the wait staff (the owners themselves) are joyously happy to serve you.
