Stayed at the hotel in late July in a second floor partial ocean view room. Grand and elegant as expected for the price. It was a beautiful hotel, but I agree with previous comments that brand product showcases in hallway cheapens the elegance. Poolside was really cramped, taking away a bit from whatever feeling of exclusivity one may have. Front desk and switchboard staff were friendly and staff overall was very professional. Breakfast buffet was OK for the price, as was dinner by the pool. Dining room staff were also professional, but it would have been nice to have been greeted with a few more smiles in the morning. It was a nice experience but didn't quite feel at home.

Room Tip: We were unexpectedly woken up at 6AM when the tractor started raking the beach in the morning, so un...

WE knew this was going to be expensive but we had no idea it was going to be SO lavish. It was like going back in time and staying in a kings palace!, there certainly were some very wealthy people staying there. We had one of the "cheaper" rooms but it still had a beach and sea view and was big and fabulous. Lunch by the pool was very special and we did that every day. The pool area is perched over the incredibly beautiful town beach, normally we would be beach people but this place was VERY special, so much we said bugger it and stayed an extra night ( 3 in total). The staff were fantastic, incredibly helpful, especially the Mexican desk clerk and Jean Claude at the pool. We did not have dinner there, mainly as it was VERY expensive and you had to dress up which is not really our scene.
The town is amazing and THE highlight of our 5 week holiday in southern France and northern Spain. Fantasic bars and restaurants but be wary of the latter as many are just basic for the summer tourists. Definitely returning!

Room Tip: Our room overlooked the garden and the beach, it was a bit cheaper but still great.

I stayed at the Hotel du Palais for one night and my experience could have been better! Upon arrival the front desk were friendly and showed us both the Ocean room and Junior Suite. We decided to stay at the Junior Suite, Room 320, beautiful room with amazing views. The hotel is beautiful however what I found it lacked was the personal touch I have experienced from other 5 star hotels in Europe. Staff were not that helpful in recommendations. Biarritz is a beautiful seaside town which I would definately go back to visit!

The location of the hotel is great and atmosphere is very pleasant. We got a room with a great ocean view. If you want to stay here you shall be prepared to worn carpets, small marks on the walls and doors, etc. I do not want to say that the hotel is shabby. But while staying in an old historical hotel one must be tolerant to such small inconveniences in order to really enjoy its true beauty. We liked the spa there, but thought the restaurant downstairs was a bit avarage for a Michellin-starred place.

Often, traditional hotels do not live up to their reputation, but the Hotel du Palais does. It stands high above the surf in beautiful Biarritz, every arrival is in style and one feels right at home. No sea view room was available, so we had a half board "formula" and a smaller room overlooking the court - just as good as the rest of the hotel is more important.

During the day, the pool area takes center stage where you can enjoy the sunshine and the salt water pool while dipping your feet into the ocean just a few steps away. Pool service is impeccable. In the evening we enjoyed twice the dinner in the grand restaurant (included in the price) - all in the best french tradition. Good fun as well: Lunch at the pool where all the buzz is.

There is also a great Spa and indoor pool (that we did not try) and all the other amenities you'd expect from a five star. Many guests seem to be regulars, always a good sign. Breakfast, sometimes a weak point in France, is great.

There are small things, like ambiguous opening times published in various publications, a strange way to close the pool's jumping board and a very early turn down service one day, but those are minor issues.

Stay here as many days as you can afford - unforgettable.

Room Tip: Obviously, sea view is hard to beat but comes at a price, go for a court room and enjoy the hotel. B...

Biarritz is a fabulous beach town and upon arrival at this hotel, one gets excited. However, the hotel is quite a disappointment once you get in the rooms-beds are lacking modern comfort with bed spreads, smelly carpet, outdated showers and light fixtures, and paper thin walls where you can clearly hear your neighbors. It feels like the hotel keeps adding one-off modern amenities (flat screen TVs) without updating the rooms in entirety. While I appreciate the history of the building, the sleeping arrangements need an update especially given the summer price point of 650 Euros. We found the service to be average and would not return here when in Biarritz again. There must be better places to stay in this great town.

We just came back from a week long vacation at this magical palace. Its our 4th time in Biarritz and our second tome at this hotel, we love it. We love the location, we love the history, the glamor. We pretend we are royals for one week a year. The food is excellent and so is the service. The spa is beautiful and the treatments are super professional. We can't wait for next summer.

Room Tip: A room facing the sea is a must, from any side.
