“Beautiful experience in Bergerac”

Lovely couple, beautiful and clean room. Also very stylish furnishings throughout. We spent a glorious week enjoying breakfast in the court yard with our hosts and other guests. The parking is free across the road. Being situated in the old town with the river what more could you want! What sets this apart is having a guest lounge and kitchen to read and unwind at the end of a busy day. many thanks to our hosts once again, we will return

We stayed at Le Logis Plantagenet immediately after our wedding at the end of July. It was so easy to get to, had ample free parking close by and the location couldn't have been better for exploring Bergerac and the Dordogne.
Despite arriving after 10 pm our hosts were happy to spend time showing us our room and settling us in. The room was light and spacious, very comfortable and had a pretty view over the medieval Place de Mirpe. We had breakfast at 9am most mornings in our hosts' beautiful courtyard garden. It was lovely to meet so many interesting people and to start the day having had a leisurely talk over a proper continental breakfast (fresh local croissants -yum). Our hosts, Bruce and Rosetta, were happy to offer recommendations about where to spend our days if we lacked inspiration, so we made full use of their knowledge of the area.
Sadly our week in Bergerac was quickly over but we could easily have stayed another week enjoying the sunshine, food and ambience.
We would have no hesitation on recommending Le Logis Plantagenet to others

My wife and I recently travelled from Somerset and stayed for a week at the Logis Plantagenet and although we arrived late in the evening our hosts were there to greet us and to show us to the Studio Room. At breakfast we found an abundance of choice: porridge, cereals, orange juice and cafe filtre to die for! Every day there were warmed fresh croissants, bread, butter and at least two different types of teas, with no restriction on the quantities taken. Several jams, marmalade, honey and fruit were also available. Breakfasts were a leisurely affair with other visitors happy to accept our hosts' guidance and maps for their onward journeys. During our time there all three rooms were fully occupied and we had much to talk about with the other English and French visitors. In between change of visitors we had a chance to look at the other rooms and found them, like our own, immacutely clean, well furnished, with comfortable beds and quality bed linen. The general ambience of the Logis Plantagenet is to be highly recommended for its elegance of decor and comfort. It was also interesting to talk to our hosts of their past restorations of furniture and houses and their plans regarding some of their existing items. We also appreciated that our room was not entered into during our stay, so we could live in our unseen jumble! This is a lovely and welcoming place to stay, near the river and shops. It is easy to get to and parking is available either on the river side or outside the front door in the square. There is a flea market in the square on the first Sunday of each month. Open air markets are in the centre of town [ten minutes' walk] on Wednesday and Saturday mornings. The Bergerac Wine Centre on the river frontage is well worth a visit, too. On all counts we give the Logis Plantagenet full marks and look forward to another visit there with no thought of looking elsewhere for B&B accommodation in Bergerac.

This a beautiful house in walking distance of the centre of Bergerac. However many of the antique chairs are broken and cannot be used. Also the kitchen is only for making tea and coffee, there are no knives, forks, plates, cooker or microwave. There are no coffee making facilities in the rooms and there are signs asking that no food or drink be consumed in the bedrooms. Breakfast was 'encouraged' to be at 9 am and we found it very disappointing with no fresh fruit, yoghurts or even fresh croissants. The croissants were frozen which was very disappointing as there is a fabulous bakery just round the corner and the one day we even took our own brioche to eat for breakfast! The bathrooms were not cleaned to a very high standard and I had to wipe the toilets clean. We were also moved on the third night to the bedroom in their house and there was a lot of road noise. The house needed a good vac and dust. 3 of our party ended up suffering from the dust! We were also told that the owners 'don't do beds'. All of this is pretty incredible seeing they are charging 85 euros a night. We did not feel too welcomed and when I mentioned at the end of the stay about the bathrooms I was told that I was just after a discount! Fridge needs a good clean too!

It is clearly stated that Le Logis Plantagenet is a de luxe Bed and Breakfast establishment and,
like other B&B's, we do not expect our guests to bring in food to consume in their bedrooms. The very beautiful kitchen is for our guests to make tea or coffee whenever they wish. Coffee, tea and milk are supplied and guests can use the refrigerator to keep liquids or a bottle of wine. Wine and Champagne glasses are there for their use. Of course there is no micro-wave, or cooking and eating utensils because Le Logis Plantagenet is a Bed and Breakfast, and not a lodging house full of cooking smells.
This person who is trying to damage our reputation actually emailed us before their arrival to ask if they should bring their own towels, which is a strong indicator of the sort of establishment they are used to staying in. Le Logis Plantagenet offers our guests every comfort, with two lovely sitting rooms with custom made upholstered sofas and armchairs, colourful rugs, paintings, beautiful flower arrangements and fine 18th century furniture. In the first floor Drawing room there are two "Directoire" gilt chairs standing against a wall which are obviously delicate and as there is no lack of other seating options, they are there because they are decorative.
The client states that the house is dusty and the bathrooms dirty. The house was thoroughly spring cleaned just 4 days before their arrival and that included professionally cleaning all the rugs and carpets. As a matter of routine, all the beds are pulled out every week and the floor dusted beneath. I wonder how many households do this! We pride ourselves on our top quality bedlinen which is always beautifully laundered, so it was sad that her octogenerian father had a problem, though luckily the mattress protection cover did its job.
Our en-suite bathrooms are fully tiled, and incorporate 2 metre mirrors. Hair dryers ,Soap, facial wipes, cotton wool and boxes of kleenex are provided.
Regarding breakfast, there are several cereals to choose from, a glass of fresh orange juice by each place, excellent granary bread, croissants, butter, four different preserves and as much freshly made tea or coffee as they wish. We usually pop the croissants into the oven just before serving as we find our guests enjoy them more this way.
We have been running Le Logis Plantagenet for about 8 years and have enjoyed having hundreds of interesting, well travelled and varied people to stay, and invariably parting as real friends. If more than a tiny minority of our guests, for their own reasons, made such false accusations, we would have given up years ago. To have one's integrity challenged by unaccountable strangers is a very unpleasant experience. It is worth pointing out that those of our guests who have been kind enough to write good things about us have done so with absolutely no prompting from ourselves.

We heartily endorse the positive reviews here.

Located in the old town, just a few steps from the Dordogne river, with free parking by the river.

Very comfortable bedroom, truly delightful olde worlde house, friendly and relaxed hosts.

No wifi as stated, although our host was happy to sort out a wired connection—but there is free wifi at the Riverside cafe just a few paces away, so why not enjoy a coffee while you catch up? No TV, but on the basis that French TV is on its own planet and to us there is not much worth watching... so what? Travelling extensively in France, I think we have rarely used an in-room set.

Ideal base to explore Bergerac and surroundings: don't hesitate to book. And we'll be back.

Trip Advisor review for Le Logis Plantagenet

My wife and I spent one night at Le Logis Plantagenet in Bergerac in September while enroute from Sarlat to Bordeaux. The Plantagenet is housed in a centuries old colombage style house that faces onto a small park located within a two to three minutes walk from the Dordogne River. The house appears to be meticulously maintained, is spotlessly clean, and contains numerous furnishings and artifacts that reflect the owners’ own travels.

The top floor room in which we stayed was one of the most charming and interesting we encountered on this trip. The ancient wooden beams, evident in several of the house’s public spaces, were especially prominent in our room, forming part of the walls and ceiling. The room contained two large skylights which brightened it during the day. The en suite facilities were clean and neat and contained all of the essentials. The room was tastefully furnished, without a television. The television was not missed. However, the B&B would benefit from the addition of Wi-Fi as many travelers find it necessary to keep in touch while away from home.

Breakfast was served in the owners’ kitchen in a next door building. Had we been leaving a little later, it would likely have been served in the owners’ court-yard, however, we had to catch an early train.

Our schedule did not give us enough time to become better acquainted with the owners. This is unfortunate as it appears, by noting some of the artifacts in the house, that we had all, in an earlier day, spent time in some of the same countries.

Our visit to Bergerac and our stay at Le Logis Plantagenet were brief but interesting and enjoyable. We are happy to recommend this city and this B&B to other travelers.

Room Tip: We highly recommend the top floor room.

This accommodation is truly unbelievable with attractive tudor front opening into a house which is beautifully and expensively furnished, with lounges and kitchen for sole use of guests. The bedroom in which we stayed was spacious and tastefully furnished with a comfortable large bed and bathroom with all necessary toiletries. The location is also ideal, being a stones throw from the river with parking only a few yards away.
