Enjoyed a wonderful recent visit to La Bonbonniere, Simone & Roland were very welcoming and was a delightful place to stay, the homemade preserves for breakfast were delicious and a perfect location in the centre of the old town. Very picturesque both La Bonbonniere and Bergerac old town.

This is a little gem! Well located in a quiet square very close to the old town and within easy walking distance of a large free carpark, the rooms are comfortable, the welcome friendly and the breakfast delicious with a good choice of home-made preserves. This was our 4th visit and we shall doubtless come again soon.

Room Tip: The top room at the back is the lightest and quietest.

Just wanted to add to update my previous review. This B&B is charming and lovely and excellent for seeing Bergerac. We visited previously in April but returned in August - the square is very busy during the afternoon in August, despite this at night the room was very quiet and we slept well. A great choice.

Room Tip: Some have private toilets, some shared - all are very clean and convenient though.

It's right in the middle of the oldest part of town, yet tranquil and cool. Quirky, all exposed beams and a myriad of art souvenirs from around the world, and lovely views. Everything you'd want to see is just round the next corner - no need for a car and a 15 euro taxi ride from the airport. Simone and Roland looked after us so well, we felt really at home with friends, sampling their own farm produce. We came here to experience the real Bergerac, and we did, a thoroughly enjoyable five day break. Go somewhere else if you want plastic, a pool or TV.

Room Tip: The Caramel suite (1st floor) is ideal for a family of four or two couples who are used to sharing a...

We had a lovely, far too brief stay in La Bonbonniere. Simone was a welcoming host - chatting to us in English and French. The rooms are well equipped with a comfortable bed, good shower and toilet shared with one other room. The square that the house is on is beautiful and ideally located for strolling around vieux Bergerac and enjoying the bars and restaurants the area offers. However despite its proximity to the centre it is very quiet at night.

The only slight criticisms I could think of is that the square unfortunately is rather spoiled by the amount of dog waste that is left there.

Thanks for this very nice comment. Small corrections:
The dog's owners don't live here now and our wonderfull square has found new its cleanliness and for my B&B ,some of the rooms have private toilets.

La Bonbonniere is exactly what the name implies....a small box of delicious candies !
In an old timbered house, in the middle of Old Bergerac, you find yourself in fully restored rooms with all the conveniences. Simone offers you a wonderful breakfast at an old family style table and when you are done, you are in walking distance of almost anything in Bergerac.
Simone is a delightful hostess, and helps you with directions, tells you stories about the area and makes you feel at home.
I have been there two times and I plan to return next Spring. See the other review for some nice photos. Danielle

Simone and her husband provided me with a wonderful little "attic room" that reminded of a little home, all put together so well. The entire place is so clean, neat and has personality plus. Fresh jams, fresh peaches are all included with the French Breakfast.

Some of the travellers I met are repeats and it appeared like a home-coming when they arrived. We all met and sat around the large table, drinking tea, and laughing. Simone is great; she speaks English quite well, and is forever translating from guest to guest.

The village (old part) has everything you would ever need; including some very exclusive restaurants. The area; well one should do more homework than I did -- castles, small towns, caves with ancient paintings in them.

I do plan on returning later in the Fall and would not stay anywhere else except at La Bonbonniere! If I can make any suggestion, it would be to plan a vacation in that area; stay at this B & B and do all the day trips out from there!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
An authentic medieval house with a rich past, La Bonbonnière was the dwelling place of the Dordogne river boatmen, and also that of Bergerac’s last washerwoman. La Bonbonnière is situated on Mirpe Place, a public square with a statue of Cyrano. Although it is in the heart of Bergerac’s old town, this is a very calm place, two steps from the centre of town, from the Dordogne river and its gabares (traditional flat-bottom boats), from museums and shops. ... more   less
