On our way home, my husband and I kept saying how we felt more relaxed than we had after any holiday before.
Le Rastelet is beautiful. Location wise, it's great. Rural but not isolated. Lots and lots of space inside which was really lovely. The rooms are nicely and well equipped and the beds are comfortable too. The water is hot and the pressure is excellent for the hand held showers over the baths. The baths are excellent sizes too - very relaxing.
The grounds of Le Rastelet are huge and beautiful to walk around. The lake was very rural rather than manicured, but we liked it like that! The pool (alarmed) is a great size and although unheated, was absolutely fine in the afternoons to swim in. The kitchen is really well equipped and there are in fact 3 ovens as well as a full four ring hob so you never need any more cooking space! Two full size fridges are also available for storing food, and drinks and water with no issue. There is a barbeque provided too which provided many delicious meals in the evenings. There's also a brilliant awning, which comes down over the terrace from the kitchen which meant even in the hottest midday sun, we could sit out and have lunch. An absolute godsend!
The decor on the inside of Le Rastelet is well maintained - perhaps a little dated in the bathrooms etc, but you really don't notice it as the rest of the house is so beautiful. There's a great washing machine for clothes and an efficient dishwasher.
Lots of hanging space in wardrobes too for the bedrooms. In a two week stay, your towels are changed over too which is a nice touch. Mosquito screens are provided in each and every bedroom so you can benefit from fresh air if it's hot without fear of insect bites. At the house, there's a table tennis table with bats and balls for a good game, as well as boules. There were plenty of sun loungers provided with very comfortable lounger cushions too.
We daytripped to Chateau de Bridoire and Sarlat for a day too. And also Gouffre de Perigord Noir... all brilliant trips and very easily doable for a day trip
15 mins drive to Bergerac and there's a massive LeClerc hypermarche on your side of Bergerac too so super easy to get to for provisions. If you want Boulangerie, the one in La Force is great (3 mins drive or a nice cycle ride if you have your bike). There's also a Huit a 8... more for basic provisions in La Force. There's a nice traditional Boucherie on the way in to Bergerac on the right too.
Basically, we had the best most relaxing holiday we've ever had. And we have a 5yr old and an 8yr old, so relaxing is a bit tricky but we all got in to the swing of things and had a thoroughly wonderful time. We really hope we can make it back next year.
Thanks very much.
