“A good preview of the prehistory of the area.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 August 2013

Several movies show how early man lived and how he made and used his tools. There is a good bookstore here, too. Many of the titles are in languages other than French.

“Great on a 30deg day”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2013 via mobile

Dropped in by chance on a really hot day to find an air conditioned museum with stuff that kept our toddler and 3 yr old amused!

Wished I had read the review and tried the cafe as well but had a great look around. Exhibits that interested our boys is a first so far in our holiday and for a short while the why and what questions stopped so well worth a visit I would say!

“Worthwhile overview of the Vezere valley sites and significance”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2013

This is a great place to start your tour of the prehistoric sites of the Vezere valley. It is free, and does a good job of a brief overview the significance, amount, and opportunities to view different sites. It covers a bit on Neandertal and Cro-Magnon man. It also has perhaps the best shop of the local attractions, with many unique items and lots of items in English and for children.

“Don't miss the cafeteria!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2013

Enough has been said about this very fine center which offers an easily understood introduction on the origins of man. And it's free! And parking is free! However, I don't believe that anyone has mentioned the on-site cafeteria. My husband and I, always craving greenery, had the best lunch salads anywhere in France. Individually made, they were huge, very original, and tasty. Reasonably priced. I had the salad by itself. My husband had the salad topped with a goat cheese grilled half-sandwich, the other half was toasted meat of some sort. Delicious! When I asked about the dressing, the chef said there were touches of lavendar and pollen. Very creative. Other folks looked happy with what they ordered. A very clean, if spartan lunch place, with air-conditioning for hot days.

The volumes of the International Center of Prehistory were designed to welcome 1000 to 2000 visitors per day what is the case in high season (July-August)
The Animation and Learning zone space is open on reservation for groups and under the proposed animations to general public during the school holidays.
The InternationalCenter of Prehistory is a place of introduction, a front door offering different resources to find out, understand, get to know about Prehistory.
