Hotel Restaurant Le Cro-Magnon
Reviewed 27 December 2011

We stayed in the hotel and ate at the restaurant as part of a self-guided cycling tour we had organised so I can't comment specifically on the "value" however was really pleased with this hotel.

If you have a room on the first floor, make sure you head up to the second floor and check out the walls of the foyer as they have been carved out of the rocks.

We do not speak french and we found all of the staff helpful in assisting us. Food and service was good in the restaurant. The town of Les Eyzies was really pleasant and a recommended stop on your tour around the aquitane.

Charming hotel. Pleasant and helpful owner/staff. Room was large, clean and comfortable. Ample parking. Easy walk into Les Eyzies and very convenient to all the attractions in the Dordogne. Good restaurant.

Just a note to say how delighted we were with the service provided by Gabriela Ramirez.. Ms. Ramirez was extremely polite and very friendly. We were in town so my husband could undergo surgery. Ms. Ramirez helped with directions and made our stay so comfortable. We will certainly be back! Thank you.

We started and finished a 6 day bike trip from this hotel. It's very comfortable and you are made to feel welcomed. The food was great.

Valerie couldn't have been a more helpful hostess for our stay in Les Eyzies. Very nice rooms and a great patio/restaurant where we ate every night as the food was excellent. Sure, the hotel is on the main drag through town, but it quiets down in the evening (and the windows close!)

Situated on a junction of the noisy main road and a side road and also right by the train line level crossing. There appeared to only be rooms to the front of the hotel as it was built into the cliff.
Room had broken safe sitting loose in wardrobe, tv was fitted to wall off level and with a note saying not to try and straighten it. Bathroom had no proper shower just a bath shower handle. Both light over bathroom mirror and extractor fan didn’t work. Mixture of different coloured towels. Funny musky smell in room perhaps from furniture. Despite a la carte menu and fixed price menus, half board gave no choice of food with dishes being selected by owner. Given that half board was expensive, food was poor.
Hotel generally faded and tired. Photos not representative. Depressing and dispiriting atmosphere.
Breakfast was basic. No staff present.

We stayed here with our teenage son. The layout of the queen sized bed with the third single bed worked out well. We had our own little terrace off of the room. As an earlier reviewer noted, "the rooms are a bit tired," and I'm inclined to agree. That said, the room and bathroom were clean and it was a very pleasant stay.
We had a lovely dinner on the terrace with amiable staff. My son and I had a crispy and succulent confit de canard with potatoes craftily wedged under the duck skin. My husband had an excellent home made terrine de fois gras for his entree.
Our hostess kindly suggested that if we wanted to visit the nearby pre-historic cave, Le Grotte de Font de Gaume, to get there at least a half hour before they opened to get tickets. Unfortunately, we'd let our son sleep in late and figured that we could get tickets for later on, but when we got there, the only available slot was at 9:30 am when they opened, so my husband and I got a chance to see these caves, but not our son.
Breakfast was a bit pricey, since our son slept in a bit later than us, we grabbed him some nice things at the boulangerie nearby on the way back from out tour for a lot less (we probably should have done the same).

Room Tip: Very close to Grotte de Font de Gaume
